So DANNY BAKER is responsible for making Fans United the massive success it was?

Well I never. Good work, fella. :jester:

Yeah, if Danny didn't get so excited about our plan, Fans United would never have been as big as it was.

Hang on Steve, you're talking like you've only just read the book. :thud:

Absolutely true. it was Danny Baker who picked up on the Richard Vaughn's suggestion and set the whole thing rolling. Warren actually describes it really well, and we just printed it verbatim because it was exactly what happened. Always had alot of resepct for Danny Baker after that - a true football fan.

I love the print off of the very early NSC, everyones emails used to be on their posts. Innocent times..

That's a little misleading to be honest.

Initially, nobody showed any interest in Richard's guestbook suggestion.

I put the idea on NSC several days later and only two people replied to my message. Luckily, one of them was Gary Crittenden, who ran NSC and the vital campaign site.

I came up with the name Fans United (nicked from a Euro 96 event called Football United). We chose the date Feb 8 1997 between us (a bit far off but there were no Premiership games that day), and discussed promotion etc.

We can't claim the idea, but Gary and I created Fans United and the blueprint for the first event.

Anyway, there was still f*** all interest on NSC at this stage, and I hadn't contacted any of the Albion supporters groups as I didn't really know them. Oops! (Luckily, everyone later pulled together brilliantly)

I then wrote to Danny Baker making out Fans United was some big organised event, and it was... once he'd mentioned it. :lolol:

Anyway...

So what's different from that, than in 'Build a Bonfire' then?
