Thinking of going there in October for a mini-break with the wife and two kids (12 and 6).

Last time we did a city break to Brussells there was loads to entertain the kids and we had a great time - Atomium, Battle of Waterloo site, Cartoon Museum etc (only downside was Manure playing Anderlecht at same time).

Anybody been to Prague ? If so what is there to do including kids ?

The alternative is a winter sun holiday.

Useful - think we may require a measured family debate (which the children normally win) :lolol:

Budapest is a great place and not yet a destination for beered-up lads. Not sure that there would be much for kids to do (apart from the kids' railway). There's a great open air swimming pool on Margrit's Island, but that might be a bit chilly in October.

I love the place to bits but I'm sure there are better places for kids.

Saw the kids Railway and the Zoo but I was struggling to find other things to inspire them

When are you thinking of going on this holiday? (Just noticed it's October)

There's not a great deal of tourist stuff to do in Milan itself. If it's just a weekend trip, worth taking in a game at San Siro.

Jambo Seagull visited recently and might have some comments to make.

What do kids like doing on holiday these days? Wouldn't have a clue myself.

I'm off to Milan next month. I'll give you some feedback. I'm not sure there's much for children to do there - more of an industrial city, as well as being a fashion centre.

I like Milan, but it's not much of a place for kids, nor is Venice. I would have thought that Budapest was better than both of them.

Have you thought about Copenhagen? I haven't been there for some years but it was a pleasant place to stroll around. There's plenty for kids in Tivoli Gardens and isn't there a Legoland in Denmark?

Way out west
Think the only problem you might have, though you may not be bothered, is that it starts to get pretty cold in Eastern Europe round about that time of year. I went to Berlin (another great suggestion for a short break), the year the wall came down, that was early november and it was bleedin freezing.

In fact come to think of it why don't you look at Berlin, there is plenty there, the Zoo, Checkpoint Charlie museum, olympic stadium, plenty of museums and the contrast between the eastern and western parts of the city. I have been there a couple of times and it rates as one of my favourite cities, I will definitely go back again sometime, particularly as it is cheaper to get there with the advent of budget airlines. Not sure which British based airlines go there but I thing Air Berlin fly from Stanstead, as does another German one whose name escapes me.

Thanks everyone for advice we are going to Amsterdam M - F as it is Leeds (H) then Sunderland (A) and we both want to go to these games.

I am sure Sky will balls this cunning plan up but so far OK.

Very cheap Gatwick to Amsterdam £210 return for a family of four and 560 euros for 4 nights in a hotel - bargain IMHO
