Budapest - Prague - Salzburg - Berlin

Hello all. Seen NSC has been good for travelling advice in the past! Going away next week on my first (mini) travelling adventure to ease our way in. Going with 2 other lads. Fly to Budapest, then go to Prague, Salzburg and Berlin (going by train to all destinations). Spend about 3/4 days at each place. When in Salzburg looking to go to the Salt Mines and Eagles Nest, as well as Munich for a day for Oktoberfest one day.

Just wondered if anyone had any advice or experiences there? We're 3 21 year old lads (who do enjoy a beer), but still want to do sight seeing etc...So yeah...NSC advice/tips!

Just got back from Berlin and I can safely say you MUST try Team Escape, it's pricey but so fun!

When you're in Salzburg you MUST go to Untersberg, it's a mountain and it's potentially Europes Highest / longest cable car up to the top, the view are amazing. You can walk down but it takes about 4/5 hours to walk down, you can always just walk around for a bit take in the view and then cable car it back down.

Budapest is awesome for it's cheap bars, go to Szimpla Kert for the strangest but one of the best clubbing experiences ever, and the church/cave thing on the other side of the river is really interesting. If you can match up with another group and go on the 'beer bikes' as well do it, I think maybe you need 6-8 people for that to be worthwhile, drinking beer on tap while cycling around the city.

I went to Budapest a few weeks ago and loved it! Cheap beer, cheap food, great weather and a beautiful city. I highly recommend the bar "Szimpla" and going up the funicular to see the castle and an amazing views over the city.

Prague is small city, and you can do the touristy stuff with ease, on foot, and leaving plenty of time for beer etc.
I would imagine this goes for all the places you visit. Dont eat, or drink in the touristy bits. In the case of Prague.. a tram or bus for 2 or 3 stops in any direction, usuall means you will end up paying around a third of the prices that you will encounter in the center.

Take the bus in Budapest that turns into a boat (seriously) down the lake for some views of the Parliment building - it's beautiful. Also the bars on the island in the middle are a must-see as is Champs Sports Bar which looks like you're just walking down into some seedy basement from the outside but it's a wonderland once you're in there.

Dejavu is a good bar in Prague , look it up . it is about £1 or just over for 1/2 litre and is mainly locals that use it , it also has a disco downstairs when the price goes up to about £1.40 . Was in there a couple of days ago and loved it .

If you got time to stop at Brno on the train from Budapest to Prague then do it , a lot cheaper than Prague and full of students . you can get cheap digs overnight but make sure it is a Thursday , Friday or Saturday to enjoy it to the full . Not so many tourists !

We did a similar thing got off the train at Komarom in Hungary walked across the Danube crossing into Komarno Slovakia and caught the train from there to Prague via Bratislava much quieter than the usual tourist route. Love Budapest great city if you have time a trip down to Lake Balaton is worth it and in Prague if you want to get out to a truly wonderful part of Bohemia go to Cesky Krumlov (train to Ceske Budejovice the home of real Budweiser and catch a local bus) it is a wonderful little town off the beaten track.

The Octoberfest is a great experience but it gets rammed and you can struggle to get in the beer tents due to cooperate hospitality so get there early and preferably midweek.
