I've just recently upgraded my bt broadband to infinity and they told me that if I stay with BT the following year, I will also get bt sport included again.... I don't have this in writing mind, just what I was told on the phone

Current deals over 3 years give 3 billion for live rights to clubs plus 180 million from match of the day. Next deals for 2016/17? My estimate 5 billion.

The only people that lose out here are the fans...

I believe it will be subscription from next season. It was only this season you got BT TV free if you were a broadband customer.

Just a promotion.

i dont think so. bearing in mind that their broadband is roughly the same as most others give or take a £, having a free football game included in the broadband cost has attracted/retained alot of customers. if the football is pay for, that number reduces dramatically. alot might stay out of laziness but its pretty easy to change broadband and alot will move for the lastest offer elsewhere or just to spite them.

This. The BT business plan is to make money by getting people onto their (relatively expensive) broadband, with the sport given away free to subscribers to tempt them on board. I can't believe they really think that they can make money on the sport as a subscription channel alone.

It is bad news because a price war over rights, pushes up costs and in turn subscriptions. BT will want to recoup their money and giving the channels away free is not the way to do it. The free offer with net, will turn into a large discount, then a discount, then .....
BT will also need more interest other than football, so expect more and more sports to transfer onto subscription channels.

Good idea, or if u want it in full HD on your tv, then buy a sky dish from eBay for about £15, point it at Astra 19.2, get a cheap £30 HD receiver and watch the matches on terrestrial German & French tv. Also on German Sport 1 which is free, watch Bundesliga 1 & 2 internationals. Also eurosport 1&2 is free.
You can often turn off the local commentary by selecting the second audio stream.

Ofcourse you can also stream onto ur tv, but I'm just giving a legitimate legal alternative to Sky and BT.

BT have the rugby rights too, and have undercut Sky substantially in terms of getting into pubs and clubs. The 12.45pm on a Saturday slot is prime for that particular market. The reason why Sky's share price took a hit yesterday is the markets taking into consideration that BT or Al-Jizzera buying more than one of the packages when the next set of rights are auctioned off in 2015. Even if Sky do keep them, expect the total price paid to rise from £3 billion to £5 billion, which means that clubs will be sharing about £10 million per MATCH that is shown live.

I'm on btinternet and currently ( CURRENTLY ) get btsport gratis. I expect change, of course, but it was interesting to see Sky shares falling ( a dive, surely ?). Most of the early CL games are dross, as are many of the later ones, but if the alternative is Eastenders or some other twaddle of similar ilk, then of course I'll watch the football. Even the Europa League.

As a Sky customer i am pleased that BT are competing for Football this should make future charges less drastic.

As a sky customer I find it the opposite. What it guarentees is when the next bid for PL comes they will through an even more ridiculous amount of money at it and then suitably charge the customer an awful lot more.
