albion are showing an interest in former £1million midfielder Bryan Hughes.
But they will tread carefully, because of concerns over the gifted 33-year-old’s level of fitness.
Any potential move could also be handicapped by competition from Championship clubs, which has already ruled League One rivals Walsall out of the running.
Hughes’ contract with Premier League strugglers Hull was terminated last week by mutual consent. The Liverpudlian made the last of his 47 appearances for the Tigers almost a year ago. He has not played since November, when he was on loan to Derby.
Birmingham bought Hughes from Wrexham for £1 million 13 years ago and he also had a spell with Charlton.
Meanwhile, former Albion midfielder David Livermore has joined Barnet.
The League Two outfit snapped up the 29-year-old after his contract was cancelled by the Seagulls this week and is expected to go straight into the Bees’ squad for tomorrow’s game against Aldershot.
Would be a great signing even if just for he remainder of the season but I really can't see it happening.
I am sure there will be clubs in the Championship and some in the top half of League 1 who will snap him up
