Has anyone visited Brussels on a short break? would they recommend it? any tips? is it worth it?

I've been but can hardly remember a thing about it. Think I had a good time though. It's certainly very pretty. The clubs were a bit dull and it pissed down.

Sorry if this is no help at all!

as 10cc say, not in hove
brussels is nice, if not as exciting as say paris.

grand place is the main square, everything happens around here.

some fantastic restaurants...the best is "aux armees de bruxelles" just off grand place. some nice shops.

low on sleaze i'm afraid:nono:

I love it and go there regularly - it's highly underrated as a city. Loads of great restaurants and beer bars (the Cirio, Falstaffs, l'Ultime Atome, to name just a few). I'm not a clubber (too old), so can't comment on them.

The Grand Place is very pretty, but the bars round it are overpriced. The Mannekin Pis is a waste of space.

Brussels is OK for a day or two maximum. It is a big city and all big cities are the same to me!

If you are looking for a more relaxed, historic and a bit different try Brugge which is easy to get to from Brussels. There are loads of good deals around with Eurostar to Brussels and then you have to get a local train to Brugge which is included in the ticket cost.

Yes i have, it was great. Lots and lots of nice bars, great food too. The main square is a good place to start.

Brugge is nice, but overrun with tourists most of the year, and some waiters have a reputation for ripping off unsuspecting foreigners if you're not careful.

Almost as nice as small towns go, and far less touristed, are Mechelen and Leuven.

If I only had time to go to one place in Belgium it would be Antwerp. Some good places to visit, and it's home to the Kulminator - certainly the best beer pub in Benelux, and possibly the world.
