[Football] Bruno has left Chelsea

I realise I am in the minority here but I just think Bruno made a very, VERY bad decision to join Chelsea. A decision that he will regret for the rest of his life because - unlike all of the other turncoats - he was the ONLY legend being asked to jump ship so had the most to lose in the eyes of the fans.

For Potter, Hamburg, Reid etc the Chelsea move boils down to "That's football, it is what it is." Not for Bruno though. Nobody could have known Chelsea would have turned out to be as bad - or as toxic - as this.

I think it is easy to underestimate Bruno's influence on our football club during the first decade at the Amex in terms of style, professionalism, aspiration and specifically helping Lewis Dunk become the player and captain he is.

I'm not sure I'd want him back any time soon as the club have moved on, but I'd like to think one day he will be welcomed at The Amex once again.

He’d definitely be welcomed at the Amex, because at the end of the day, the people running our club are grown-ups. Bjorn Hamburg was at the Amex for the AEK match.

I just don't buy this for one minute. As if there a) wouldn't have been a role for Bruno at the Albion and b) if there wasn't once RDZ arrived then he couldn't have just joined Potter then. He gambled, and he lost. He backed the wrong horse, so tough luck mate. He had a job for life here and a genuine shot at being a Premier League manager in the next few years, but he threw it away by backing Potter over Bloom, so he'll have to make do with a mediocre coaching job in Spain instead.

All of this, it had nothing to do with backing Potter over Bloom, that's absolute nonsense. Chelsea traditionally are a much bigger and more successful club than Brighton, he was offered a gigantic payrise, it could well have come off.

Obviously he is very ambitious, keen to succeed at the top level as a coach, and at the end of the day has his family to consider too. I don't blame him one iota. Let's face it loyalty, rightly or wrongly, counts for comparitively little in football today.

That's a good point!

I know it's hard, but we have to take all the emotion out of it ('Legend', 'Traitor') as ultimately we all want what's best for the club. TB/PB will think like that, and if they thought that Bruno could do a job then I'd welcome him back with open arms, same as I did for 'Judas' Murray. However, maybe, coaching-wise we've moved on and this whole discussion is moot?

No it sure I buy this line, even if it’s the one Bruno has peddled. Other staff stayed and don’t know of any that got made redundant. I’m sure there was always a small chance, but sacking a perceived legend wouldn’t have been a smart move by any new manager and I don’t think Bloom would’ve liked it. There would have been a role created for him worst case. I don’t buy the out of the job argument myself.

I don’t buy this argument about trying to provide for his family…..he was already providing for them.
As you know he was a professional footballer for many years, at a good level and playing on for longer than the average player.
I’m guessing he was pretty well paid. He also had a job with the Albion which I guess was well paid.

It's nonsense. Both Crofts and Stern have first team roles. As would Bruno, Roberts etc if they'd stayed.

There has been no implication anywhere from the club that Bruno wouldn't have been accommodated if he wanted to stay. It's also an absolutely nuts way to run a business, sacking highly paid staff for no reason other than you've replaced their manager.

Bruno left, reportedly with a heavy heart, because he thought following Potter to Chelsea was the best move (both financially and in terms of career progression) for his career. That's it.
