Yes, that's the point - it is really ucking hard graft. Then I respectfully suggest your friend watches Springsteen on Broadway on Netflix.

From an alternative point of view, why do people assume (and then get upset at their assumption) that songwriters are claiming their songs are "fact", whereas books are accepted as "fiction"? I imagine there's a fair crossover in both genres.
Yes I agree with you.I think its true to say that most people I know either love Springsteen or dislike him intensly,I've met very few who don't have strong views.I think people either buy the working class hero he paints or they don't, because as much as I like him it is all he has.

Doesn't bother me greatly what people think, any more than it bothers me what other football fans think about the Albion.

Anyway, here's what he says at the start of the Broadway show:
"I've never held an honest job in my entire life. I've never done any hard labour.I've never worked 9 to 5. I've never worked 5 days a week (until right now). I don't like it. I've never seen the inside of a factory, yet it's all I've ever written about. Standing before you is a man who has become wildly and absurdly successful writing about something about which he has had absolutely no personal experience. I made it all up. That's how good I am."

Saw him on broadway last April for my 50th and can still picture him saying those words now.
Amazing evening spent less than 20feet from the great man with just his guitar and piano

I'm in "Bruce mode" this morning, listening to the new album. Always with a silly grin on my face. He can still do it.

Ironic? Irony? ???

Yes, I guess so. The track BTR is not my favourite on the album though. Jungleland, tenth avenue freeze out, night, thunder road and backstreets beat it for me. :lolol:

Just listening to the newish Gong album my son bought me for my 61st. Gong still good without Daevid Allen. Who knew?

I was well aware you were an ageing punk but not a closet hippie as well.

I really like Darkness on the Edge of Town, Born to Run era but I couldn't get on with all that Born in the USA stuff.
Apparently this new album is vying with Madonna for the number one spot. It has some very good reviews.

An article from someone who saw a documentary based on the album and its inspirations at the london film festival. The author seems to be someone who was not overly enamoured with the album on first hearing, but the film gives them context and have led to a re-evaluation.

Seems to be released in the UK on 28 October. I'm wondering whether it's going to be on in ordinary cinemas (even for one day), or just specialist ones in London....
