Cameron has him RUNNING scared

I doubt it. One thing Brown has done is force Cameron to show his hand probably at least a year before he needed to. Smart move.

That'll mean all the lefty Pinkos on here can continue to gloat and take the piss out of the Conservatives who have OBVIOUSLY worried Brown that his could be the shortest ever tenure otherwise he'd had the balls to call an election and try and get himself a full 4 years.

Common sense really though I suppose, as he had an excellent chance of losing imo.

Smart move by George Osborne to raise In/Tax threshold, that has caused Lab BIG probs, even more so in marginal seats. :D

Whether Brown has bottled it or not, or whether it is a good tactical move.

IMO calling an election after just 2 years in office would have a democratic disgrace. Whatever party was in power, at least go for 3 years and tbh 4 years, should be the minimum.

Big mistake. Shows weakness. He's let the talk get out of hand and underestimated the Tory response.

I think Brown has a much better chance of winning now than in 2 years time.

Particularly if there is a global recession on the way, which can't be ruled out.

I think Labour would have won if they have summoned up the courage to take on the Tories. There are plenty of people that would be willing to vote labour, particularly as many have made a killing on the property market. It is all about personal gain for many people.

Very good point.

The Conservatives rallies together well last week, but it is less than a month, when top people in his party and ex ministers were slagging him off.

Brown can sharpen up Labour policies now, he needs to look at Capital Gains Tax, give an inch here, admit, that the threshold needs to be raised a bit more, due to house prices. A threshold of #500,000 would certainly bring in a few waverers and tbh, not many people in Labour marginals or in their heartlands (outside LOndon) would own property of this value and vote Labour.

He Was on Question Time Thursday Night, along with Ming Cambell, Ruth Kelly, & the One & Only Ian Hislop, who stole the show in my opinion.

Anyone else watch this?

Its more to do with the private polling in marginal seats which may have shown that voters intentions would lead to a small Tory majority if an election was held in November. Its not about percentages nationally but what happens in 150 seats.

The longer it goes on the more and more clear it will be Cameron is the man and the Labour party with Brown in charge are a busted flush

Besdies, the europe issue, immigration and single mums will rear their tory heads and divide the Conservatives before the next election.

Brown doesnt really have much to do apart from sit tight and let the tories destroy themselves. They normally do this, and do it quite well. It was only a week ago that Thatcher's name got the biggest conference cheer of the day and William Hague was rebutting reporters stating he didnt want to lead the party again.

I think you are hugely underestimating the Tories this time round and good as this will mean they will win as Labour are off guard and smugly believe they wil have a devine right to win regardless of their stinking policies, their time is up, things will go from worse to worse for Labour over the next 2 years, if Cameron had been in charge for the period Howard wass before the last election the Conservatives would have won last time but keep thinking that Labour will automatically win thats fine by me

Maybe Herr T - but a week ago, Mr Brown hadn't been rumbled for cooking Iraqi troop withdrawal numbers and opening the same hospital twice. There was always a doubt about his judgement and a fear that, when he couldn't quietly vanish when things got rough, he would look inadequate. It's starting to look that way.

In 2 years time the Tories will have had the means to re-invent themselves by stealing the political ground of New Labour circa 1997 as this Government is now proving to be very similar to the previous incumbents. In 2009 a whole generation of voters will have forgotten what Maggie did and will demand that it is time for a change.

Or some new history books will have been published and the young Maggie-haters will be able to read about what a dump she had to take over. She transformed a basket case into a viable country during her first five years. Should have retired then, maybe....
