Are you sure you are not being throttled, Virgin do this between about 4 pm and 10 pm.They reduce your speed by up to 80%.

Should be getting 30 mb at moment getting 32 mb. Virgin media. £18.50 per month. :clap2:

Problem is you only have to watch tennis or go on a few web cams and you are over your download limit.

The reason I said they might be Throttling your connection is that they said, give it a few hours! Thats exactly what would happen.

Throttling = slowing internet speed dowm, fair usage policy.

I found my BB speed crawled to a snails pace coincidentally after an 18 month contract had just finished , it was 4meg but went down to 1meg. I posted my details on the TalkTalk forum and they altered my profile to bring it back to 4meg. My problem was an automatic tool , DLM (dynamic line management) adjusted the profile negatively.

I'm with virgin 50mb package and when I speed test it I get between 47mb and 53mb!

Thing is though sometimes your download speed is restricted by the speed if the server you're downloading from, so despite my mega speed, it still crawls when I download movies or stream from certain sites.

Was on Sky before and that was poor.

I've had about six different broadband providers, here and abroad and only two were any good and both were the most pricey. You get what you pay for.

Just to check in again...after threatnening them to leave, I'm getting 9.5M evenings now. Which is brillant.

Perhaps I was the squeeky wheel that got the oil ?

As many have said it varys due to the area use, bank holidays are terrible for speeds around here.

I am also on the 50mb, but only getting 24mb at best at the moment, aren't they introducing a 100mb service soon..

Needs regulating so that they have to deliver more consistenly what you pay for.

Not Luton! Thank God
How old is the telephone socket your are using? If you've got an old one then you need to remove the bell wire (google it) as this can cause huge interference. I was running 0.2 mb and after i improved that am now running 6mb. Also make sure to plug it into the main telephone socket (the one closest to the door) not extension sockets.

And charge us more money. No thanks. So much competition in broadband in the UK.

i think they just need to stop advertising "upto" speeds, and give realistic product information to customers. many people are never, short of national roll out of fibre to the home, going to get speeds over a few MB. some would be happy to get that.
