Icy,my point here and where i agree with Cloughie, is Leek are far the best supported Cricket club in the area, not short of money, even Derbyshire play at Leek. Yet they have not won the League for years, the North Staffs/South Cheshire league is a decent league, one of the best in the country. Yet small 'homespun' teams often do well and win titles and cups, wel ahead of Leek. Sure they want my money, but they don't want me.

England managed to win a World Cup at Rugby which is identical to what our football team have achieved. Not sure rugby or cricket are full of the middle classes any more? I have seen 1st hand selection policy at England trials at under 16 rugby and it was definitley a matter of how good you were, absolutely nothing to do with your school or background

It was over 10 years ago now, but a couple of school mates used to play cricket for sussex at youth level and they both told me that you couldn't get a game if you didn't go to public school. One of them just gave up cricket and the other got himself a scholarship at Ardingly to give himself a chance, but still didn't make it.

I think attitudes are different up north, but down here it cirtainly matters what school you go to.

I just had a look at the England cricket team that played in the last test - just three of them went to state school. I reckon that's a lower percentage than in the days of Gentlemen and Players.

And England ought to have won the WC by now, seeing as we have twice as many registered players as any other nation.

Rugby and cricket remain inaccessible sports IMO, but rugby at least seems to be trying to do something about that. Conversely, the ECB seem utterly clueless and if it wasn't for the fact we suddenly became competitive against Australia again 5 years ago, I think it would be in a spot of trouble.

Let's not forget we weren't playing our best players. Andy Murray would have pissed on the lithuanians and if he could play doubles with his brother then we would be so far down the Davis Cup leagues.

But Murray didnt play, I agree with why he didnt as well. Whats the point of him rocking up winning 2 matches and between the rest of the fucktards lose 3
