The place I go to has a bun which looks like a muffin but has a tougher texture with big air holes…but like a hybrid muffin ciabatta. Works well and doesn’t detract from the filling.
Yes, that looks good. Hate to say it but it looks like a similar principle to the bun in a sausage and egg McMuffin.

Along similar lines, I thought it looked like an English Muffin (I hate that term).
Totally disagree with your first assertion - 100% agree with your second. Why have brioche buns for burgers become so popular? It's way too sweet, you might as well use a doughnut.
I have tried the man vs food thing about using a glazed doughnut as the bun. It actually works well with the glaze melting to add a nice sweetness to the burger but it is a heart attack on a plate

I'm other. I'm not a fan of processed bread at all although it's ok for toast.

If I want proper bread, I go to Truffles. Good taste and reasonable price.

I was wandering past HISBE (RIP) one day and seeing they had fresh loaves, thought I'd pop in. Over £3.50! And that was pre-pandemic. I suppose if you are going to scew your suppliers, staff and punters you aren't going to be around for long. And deservedly so.

For fellow Worthingites, Mr B the Baker in South Farm Road also produces very good bread.

Wow! I didn't realise putting burgers in doughnuts was actually a 'thing', I said it as a joke! :lolol: 😲

I used to live off thick doorstop white bread a loaf a day easy and anything crammed into it from pizza, Chinese, pies, sausage rolls with lashings of butter and mayo....
I did that from the age of 18 while fitting floors it was fine, I stopped on the tools about 15 years ago full time, but continued and went from 10 stone nowt to 14 and a half and collected diabetes on the way....

I still crave all that shite, but now just get a small loaf of Jasons Sough dough or seeded stuff and fill it with a thin spread of health spread, and mayo and fill it will rocket and a splash of pepper.

I might as well be dead

Sort of went in reverse to you in some ways.

With a sedentary job I’d gone up to almost 15st. I still went to gym but was way too heavy. Blood pressure and cholesterol through the roof. Back pain and leg pain constantly .

Changed jobs and now walk anything from 12 to 20 miles a night with plenty of running and other physical stuff thrown in on the job.

Dropped back down to 12.5 stone and all my stats have reduced to healthy levels.

I eat like a horse though now. Healthy stuff unfortunately. I’d love to get back on the bread and butter but I fear the return of cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Good on you, I still treat myself, but we do not get white bread or processed meat, pies etc in the weekly shop.
I allow myself one treat a week, be it a meat suet pudding, or a flashy pie with mushy peas made at home, I just dont stick it in a balm or thick white bread dripping with butter and mayo................

Oh what have I done, I am going to do the weekly shop in an hour

Not sure if anyone locally does this now but Reds True barbecue (they sell sauces etc through Tesco and other places) have this on their restaurant menus up in the North of England.

I've also made my own - you cut the donut in half and toast the cut side. You then load the burger with the glazed parts on the inside so the glaze melts onto the filling.

Along similar lines, putting hot honey (ie. chilli honey) on a meat pizza is a wonderful mix of sweetness and savoury.

Crumpets, with butter, mayo and cheese melted and chilli flakes on the top.........................................................

I do similar. One treat on a Sunday evening. Usually a small Chinese takeaway.

It’s a struggle sometimes but I feel much better, don’t get nearly as stressed, sleep better and have more energy.

I’ll keep telling myself that anyway 😊

Wow! Sounds disgusting! Well 'each to their own' as they say - although I do agree that sometimes the combination of sweet and savoury can be winner. At one time you could buy a type of crispy snack that was honey and mustard flavour. It was absolutely fantastic.

I'm not a nutritionist but wouldn't you better off ditching the mystery spread and mayonnaise and using real butter? Add some roasted veg, or at least a bit of tomato and cucumber, to your rocket, and you've got yourself a tasty and healthy sandwich.

I used to bake bread in my log burner. About 20 times.
Out of them, I reckon...
6 were totally crap.
6 were edible, if you were really hungry.
4 were sort of a bit breadish, and not too bad.
3 were actually pretty good, sort of...

BUT... One loaf I baked...WOW!... probably more by accident than judgement, was majestic. One of the best things I've ever tasted in my life.

Would I do it again? No.

I am a bread lover and love most supermarket Tiger bread, but usually eat some kind of Granary loaf as my staple. I also have to admit to buying sourdough loaves from the Hoxton Bakery in Chichester. White, brown or seeded, they are all good, but my favourite is the white. They should be good at £4.40 a pop!
