Bake our own to save money. Prior to that it was Aldi 85p brown bread.
To answer the question how much cheaper is it?
A small loaf, about half the standard size, costs roughly 80p to bake.
Yes, I know. Add to that the £135 bread maker.

I like a good bread but won't pay the stupid prices of the Artisan loafs. Tiger loaf from Aldi or Sainsburys for WS household.

Just got some sour dough starter. Starting this weekend.

Bread in this country is total pants, hard to get decent bread anywhere without spending £££.

Think we just don't have a baking culture....

Occasionally of course i will slip to the dark side a pick up a thick slice warbuton white to stuff with streaky bacon, shrooms, hash brown and lashings of the red stuff and of course buttered with lurpack

To be fair, I have, on occasion, had sourdough. But I didn’t inhale.

It depends on the purpose. As something nice to eat with just butter or maybe a nice M&S Chicken Rillette then I am happy to spend more on a nice fancy loaf with good flavour and texture.

For some basic toast and marmite as breakfast or to use for a classic bacon sarnie then Hovis White Thick Sliced is just the thing.

Other. Because both are great.
Though your cheap Chorleywood bread process bread can be an issue for some people. My missus was about to go gluten free when we met having correlated the peaks in a somewhat chronic stomach pain to bread. I suggested just trying better bread and bingo problem solved.
She might be a couple of stone lighter if I hadn't though.
