Coming from a Nazi cardinal, that's a good one. The idiot concerned is considered too much of an embarassment to bring to the UK as it is so he stays in the Vaterland.

He says that when you land in Heathrow it is like landing in a Third World Country - I assume he means this racially?

If he was talking about Glasgow airport I could understand it.

Why do people make so much fuss about this German twat anyway!?

Didn't he say that the Holocaust didn't exist or something!?

Abort, retry, fail
The German-born cardinal was quoted as saying to the country's Focus magazine that "when you land at Heathrow you think at times you have landed in a Third World country".

I tend to agree with him, when I flew back for the first time in a couple of years ( June) I thought I had mistakenly landed on the Indian sub continent.

India is a developing country and not a third world country, so your evidence to support the claims is infactual. :pedant:

Read again please, I said Indian sub continent, thats not just India, it includes Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan. Sometimes also includes Afghanistan and Maldives.

The International Monetary fund calls India a LEDC (less economically-developed country), which supposedly means it is in the Third World.

Have you been to LHR recently?

Not sure whether he was alluding to the UK as a 3rd world country in terms of our poor infrastructure (unlikely) - or racially.

I think it was probably racial...

He's got a point though, having travelled through Heathrow many times I can honestly say it is one of the dirtiest and most undesirable major airports in the world. Singapore is easily the best. If his comments are based on the race of persons at the airport that just makes him stupid, I mean it is a major international hub airport is it any surprise that foreigners may be using it?

Blatant xenophobia - the German nazi twat!

Bit of devil's advocate here: there are, according to the last census, approximately 4 million Catholics in the UK, which out of the population of about 60 million, makes it a minority religion by anybody's standards, with absolutely no offence intended to those Catholics on here or anywhere else.

The leader of the Catholic church turns up in the UK and announces his intention to hold masses or whatever and various major public appearances.

So, knowing how very vociferous the likes of the English Defence League are against foreigners- particularly those of a different religious persuasion to the UK majority- coming here to preach their holy messages, I presume they will be holding marches and rallies in protest at the Pope's arrival?

Or do those rules only apply when the protagonists are darker skinned and worship a god called Allah?

same thing really. or rather, India is both catagories. of course, the whole "three world theory" doesnt really work anymore with the collapse of communism, and i'd be inclinded to consider India in the First World on the basis of its general political/economic model.

anywho, not really sure who he insults more. the UK for suggesting Heathrow is a shithole (well, its f***ing great airport, what else you expect), or the whole of the Third World for suggesting they are unchristian heathens?

No overtime in Sussex, I can tell you :( Apart from on bank holidays, and they can't very well have no police on duty just because everyone else has the day off. Even that tedious EDO protest in Brighton next month will be covered as much as possible by cancelled rest days, not overtime.

Don't have a truncheon either :p

Strange thing to say (not particularly offensive IMO, just strange), has been quickly taken aside and prevented from coming (despite what excuses they may have given)

= complete non story.
