That was legendary though.

People won't be talking about this tomorrow night, let alone 20 years' time.

Exactly right. The Fox/Fleetwood shambles was of its time and down in folklore. Then the BRITS were huge 15 years ago and had stories and acts to match. Now it is just bland bland bland with no redeeming features.

Only good thing is that Emeli Sande was the big winner, shes a great singer. Also good that Wand Erection didnt win a proper award but had to have a made up one.

Rest of it was a load of shit. Had a chance to go as well, happy i didnt.

That show tonight just about sums up the music industry today

BLAND !!!!!!

Can't stand watching all the backslapping and James Corden was wank

The BRITS have morphed into something quite sterile these days. That said, the BRITS is only one small part of the music industry...there's loads loads more out there in music world which is far from bland.

You could probably throw loads of indie bands at me and say there's some real talent out there but that's always been the case but if you're looking at mainstream chart music it's very poor & bland probably the worst it's ever been since 75 & 76 before the punk explosion ,I'm just waiting for a new band to come along to kick start it all up again but deep down I'm not sure if there is a Sex Pistols, Jam , Smiths , oasis etc etc out there anymore )

Due to the way music sales have gone, and the fact anyone can make music in their bedrooms these days, I am not sure there will ever be another explosion like the sort you want. There is simply too much out there now for most bands to have a major major impact like the type you suggest. This does not make other artists bland or less exciting though, which is what you said. It just means there is stuff going on which is not as pronounced or obvious these days.

Besides, it's the youth who dictate a lot of music trends and something I have noticed as my years roll on is that the kids are still excited by lots of bands. I've been to lots of gigs and (I hope I do not come across as soppy here) seen kids going hyper for some acts and it is a joy to see*; they see excitement. And maybe they dont want another Oasis?

* - apart from one lad who got day-glo paint on my new t-shirt.

I would not do this, I'm way too old.

That's hilarious, thanks or the memory! Would love to have seen someone do something like that on tonight's show, love to see the look on the faces of the great and good as they cheered and clapped inanely.

My other favourite was Mick and Sam....and their huge difference in height which the cameras struggled with all night.

Am I imagining this, or are bands getting posher?

The only way you can fund a few years to make an album is by having some rich parents I guess. Gone are the days of signing on and writing your masterpiece.

also when you get a main stream popular band that everyone looks up to & inspires to be you then get an estuary of smaller bands making up a new movement (punk, ska ,new romantics ,goths, britpop etc etc )
All the time bands like No Direction are toping the charts with an easy ticket to stardom through X factor the music industry will be in constant decline

How are you measuring this decline? I agree there is not an obvious act for everyone to get behind but this is as much to do with the digital world (as I mentioned earlier) as it is Simon Cowell. Probably more in fact. I do not think the industry is in decline. It's in decline in the traditional phyiscal record sales sense. But, live music is stratsospheric at the moment; just compare the number of festivals now compared to say 10-15 years ago. Music is being swapped and listened to at a freightening rate these days. I persnonally am buying more than I have ever bought in my lifetime.

I didn't bother to watch or look at the results, it became utterly pointless as soon as they let normal people vote. I assume Bumford and Sons won something and if Adele hasn't won an award they probably would have made up an award to give her. And Wand Erection.

Highest viewing figures for over a decade so must have donw something right.

One Directions award is a new award and Brits Organisers are hoping that it will be a huge honour in a couple of decades time to win an award that was first won by the pop sensations that are 1D.

the thing is, music industry is all controlled nowadays - no one gets big by being an artist anymore - you have to be part of the machinery / the conveyor belt.

= no characters.
