I can't see what actual benefit it would bring other than even more friendlies to help pay down the FA's Wembley mortgage.

One of the things that made it special was the fact that all matches were on the box, which was very rare in the late 70s, only the cup final, and the European cup final were on live annually if I recall correctly, I also remember as a child how special/ different it was to see a player wearing the number 20 on his back as squad numbers were in operation

the great Liverpool sides of the 70s were packed with British Internationals

it was great to see them playing on opposing teams at the end of the season

I remember an ex-England manager saying he wasn't in favour as the games would typically be played at a higher intensity due to the rivalry and that's not what players need at the end of a season.

Everyone is assuming that the clubs would release players for this meaningless tournament.

Regardless of that, it's a no from me.

if you left it up too managers the premier league would only have about 10 teams in it and play once a fortnight

Most Premier clubs would not release their players as they have games to fulfill throughout the world in USA ASIA and AUSTRALIA at the end ot beginning of the season thus reducing the break for the players and earning the clubs money.

England would win this every time with ease, gone are the days are the home nations having a decent amount of players in the top flight of the English league

To bring it back properly you'd have to have England v. Scotland on a Saturday afternoon, at the same time as a full league programme - if any of your players were away on international duty, you brought in the reserves. Now that would REALLY upset the PL!
