The pledge to whack up the Personal Allowance and Higher Rate tax band could have come straight from the Lib Dem manifesto, so this is concrete proof of the positive effect Clegg and his party have had on the Tories whilst in coalition. It's almost as if Cameron's mitigating against losing votes to UKIP by nicking them off the Lib Dems, so I'll be interested to see how Nick Clegg responds at the Lib Dem conference.

On NSC for over two decades...
And also this time last election he was talking "big society, hug a hoody and greenest government ever." He's not to be trusted.

To be fair neither party involved in the coalition government have been able to fully implement their election manifestos, which is understandable.

Tax-free personal allowance to be raised from £10,500 to £12,500
40% rate raised from £41,900 to £50,000
Abolish zero-hour contracts
NHS budget protected

...and much, much more.

A veritable masterclass in how to deliver to an audience unlike forgetful Ed.

I hope Miliband has not paid a deposit for the removal men next year.

Cracking conference all round.

Let's keep the blue flag flying high.

I too would like to now how this is going to be paid for, but I think I can guess. VAT always goes up on the Tory watch and no government ever shows any interest in reducing it significantly, although various Labour administrations have tinkered a bit. Here are the facts:

1973 10% (Tory government)
1977 8% but 12.5% for luxury goods (Labour government)
1979 15% (Tory government)
1991 17.5% (Tory government)
1997 17.5% but reduced to 5-8% for energy saving/smoking cessation and other (Labour government)
2010 20% (Tory government)

And in case he hasn't realised, he's in power now. So why haven't zero hour contracts been abolished already?

So forgive me if I don't swallow the piggy-eyed git's bullshit, hook line and sinker.

I wonder how this will be paid for ? The devil as always is in the detail

Yeah . great news as long as you earn £40k plus and don't need social services, or local government, or the police, etc
