based on the number of performances for us it has to be Mayo, based on the best financial deal for us has to be Virgo and based on who played at the highest level has to be Barry so take your pick of your own interpretation of the best youth product.

to be fair, I think you're being extremely harsh on Duncan McArthur

Duncan pressed the self desruct button, he had the talent but football was not the only thing he liked to do. When he was at Hastings United Villa and Palace looked at him but sadly I believe his attitude to authority let him down.

A sad waste of talent, still scoring regularly for Rye United though and not a red card to his name this season..........................yet

Surely has to be Barry, as he is the best player to come out our youth setup. Regardless of whether he was good when he left or not, the fact remains that he is now an England international, and starts every game, and that he came through our youth system.

Whoever said Mayo really is taking the piss surely, best player doesn't mean who's played the most games for us.

Erm HELLO! Try re-reading it mate...

If we're not purely taking transfer fees into consideration, John Robinson's worth a mention here surely.

62 games for the Albion before moving to Charlton with whom he played 332 games.

30 caps for Wales over 7 years in addition.

Not a single red yet? I am genuinely shocked! I know he had a bit of a reputation when at Hastings, he apparently got in a scrap with a mate of mine in one of George Street's finer nightspots. Shame really, as he did seem to have genuine talent.

Nonsense thread. It has to Gareth Barry by a mile. What other former Brighton youth player has played for England? The measure has to be which player has played at the highest level, and that is Gareth Barry.
