I thought that the winner of the best beer for the past few years has been Timothy Taylors Landlord.

I have just come back from a few days in Mevagissey, via Yeovil. of course, and was drinking St Austells Tribute quite a good pint.

Friend of mine runs The Montreal any views on that pub.

Sorry got wrong pub and had to change it.

Nail on point, as usual:

Not any more it's not. About as festive as the Walkabout and about as unique these days too, compared to its heyday under Chris and Geoff. A very sad loss.

What about the Palmeira or the Railway bell? :lolol:

Seriously though, i would have thought the Bath Arms, The Font (though nowhere near what it once was), the Hove Place or even The Cricketers should be up there!

Do you mean the Waggon and Horses?

Or just before that is the grotty pub called um... something like the White Horse.

What about the Battle of Trafalgar or The Bugle or the Dover Castle or the Greys or the Park Crescent. Christ there's hundreds. There's the Hartington, the London Unity or the Eddy.

Greys!

They're all far worse than the original list (which I tend to agree with - awaits flaming)!

That is a nice pub

Obviously feelings run high when it comes to your favourite pubs but give the book a break ...

I've met the guy who put the book together, along with a group of friends (The Pub Jury), he's funded the entire print run himself.

Personally, I think the book is great from a 'ticklist' point of view, I certainly don't agree with all the scores but I'm working my way through the list ticking off the places I've been over the years.

The guy has a blog and a website, I'm sure he'd welcome feedback! (www.brightonpubs.blogspot.com or www.pubjury.co.uk)

BTW The Nelson, 57% whats that about!

Has that takeover now been approved? I thought Harveys were still independent?
Thankfully, he means just the Regency Tavern *swoons, reaches for smelling salts*

Is that the one in Kemp Town if so a friend of mine ran it for many years in the mid 70s Brynn Eaver. He was the manager of The Downview in Worthing when my mother worked for him.

I dont know about her but Brynn was there with his wife Mavis and he died whilst running the pub and she took another pub in, and I can't remember, it was either Edward St or St James St.

I will find out tonight...she ran it in the 50/60's - moved around a bit ie Golden cannon, Constant Service, and a few other pubs round the Kemp Town Area.

My missus Dad used to remember going all the way over to Lewes to pick up fresh bread from a bakery where the Culfial Industrial estate is now. I am not sure if harveys supplied some of the beer.

When she retired she lived in Licenses Victulars homes until she passed away in the early 80's
