If there's no obvious reason it could be something to do with a uni open day or start of term or something along those lines which means the car park are full during the day.

Wish it was in the EU
We back on to one of the local university sites and if they have events on Saturdays e.g. open days then we move the kick-off to either Friday night, Sunday or as in this case back a few hours.

Albion's match with Birmingham City at the Amex on Saturday 29th September will kick off at 5.30pm, following discussions between the two clubs.

This is due to the arrival of university students at both Brighton and Sussex campuses for the new autumn term that afternoon.

The match was originally scheduled for 3pm, but the early-evening kick-off will allow the additional traffic to clear the sites before supporters begin to arrive.

This happened last season when we played Hull. Meant a couple of extra drinking hours in the Swan with Hull fans. Good fun.

You should get home by midnight the same day. Not if they came from Hull by train though. I expect you are used to traffic congestion in Birmingham? Brighton have big queues in summer that are worse than the Amex traffic.

Should the Albion request to have an away game on that date in future or is that too straightforward as a plan?

The problem is you are only allowed a small number of such requests per season - just 2 I think. Pride takes one, we've possibly already used our other request further down the line ( Saturday before Christmas, due to park and ride ?? )

The Christmas Park & Ride was a factor at Withdean. I think there are problems this season with our home match against Millwall due to the lack of trains.

LOL, because other cities don't have universities that also start the same week do they :D

I doubt many other clubs put their ground slap bang in the middle of 2 big university campus' with halls of residence though.

Is it really that much of a problem to push kick off back 2.5 hours once a season, then?

We'd have to do it if the TV Cameras requested it anyway...

Just thought I'd add to the number of replies you're getting. Don't mind me.

Not a probelm to me no, it is however for fans of Birmingham and particularly Hull last year with a long journey home ahead of them.
