(PS: There will now follow a half dozen or so posts along the lines of "well he would say that, wouldn't he??")

Dale was caught by a nasty challenge in the 1st half at Crawley which he did react to.
The ref told him to calm down.

It never, EVER ceases to amaze me just how much credence some people on here actually give to a pre-season knockabout.

"Wake up call"
"Played like strangers"
"Dreadful tactics"

Hughton clearly doesn't have a clue. Embarassing result, which we will almost certainly think back to in May as the kick start to an inevitably poor season. Today was almost like the players had never played with each other.

???:ffsparr::dunce:

They hadn't.

Better to make mistakes in friendlies when it does not really matter.

Overall, I thought Fulham set up in a way which forced Albion to play it long. I think it is important how we played the ball out of defence and Fulham did it very well and we did it bloody awful.

Lualua did one good thing collecting the ball from a Dunk long pass under pressure and turning rapidly so in an instant he had the ball going forward. But this is only good on the edge of the box or in it. Ince and Holla did not look shown up a all. They did not get much of the ball but neither of them made any mistakes and found space within shooting range but they were not given the ball. Lualua crossing was the not the best choice or execution. And a ball was put into space in front of him. It all makes me think he would be more useful as a second striker than a wide man.

My feeling was this was a total sell out to the idea of not revealing to Fulham any idea about how we'll play them during the Championship season. Wheel Spin!

It was absolutely dreadful. Like a bunch of strangers. Tactics seemed dreadful.

Holla and Ince did not play badly but they hardly had the ball. Lualua played too deep. Very rigid play by the Albion.

Ince made 95% passes OK and ran into positions for the returns as did Holla. Hornby-Forbes and Hunt (out of position on the left?) looked poor.

Fulham might give Newcastle a good game when the real stuff starts.

Sessegnon might score goals at this level?

If yours is a serious post, which it is now quite difficult to tell which ones are, then look back at the players you have named and tell me how many of them will be in the starting XI for most games next season? I can see precisely none!

This thread is obviously a culmination of people throwing their toys out of the pram that we haven't made many first team signings yet, and those who have been desperate to moan about something. Classic NSC!

Never played football but the best armchair managers in the world would be my guess.

Indeed.

Holla won't play for us in the league. Ince unlikely to. The central defensive partnerships won't feature.

Hughton said beforehand to not read anything into the selections.

That would be very Fulhamish.

They played well, without creating loads of chances.

Matt Smith though, can there possibly be a bigger cart horse in the Championship?

I got the opinion he was ridiculed a bit by the Fulham fans when he won anything?

I mean don't get me wrong, I want him to stay desperately and remain optimistic he will but thus situation is common (ie 'It's a knock' then moves club within two days, thus proving its a knock to be a complete lie) Just don't like the dishonesty. Of course if he really does have a knock (We'll probably never know) then I take back my anguish.

Reassured by Hughton now ? Or is Stephens "knock" "dishonesty" and a "complete lie" .

A pointless game then! And you are correct those players won't feature next season so my question is why are they still on the feckin payroll?

All true.

A basically pointless game for Ince, Holla, Bruno in central defence etc.

Although not pointless for sharpenning up Hemed, Murray, Knockaert, Kayal etc. and for that we do need 'filler' players to make up the 11 on the pitch.

We've given Holla a free transfer, not much more we can do unless someone takes him. We of course may do a further deal with him just before transfer deadline so he can become a free agent. For now, though, he is on the payroll.

It was such a pointless game, i even forgot it was on. Sounds like a training exercise.

I was very surprised to see Holla in the line-up, i read in one of the papers back in May that we were paying up his contract? Perhaps not then. Still got a bit of dead wood to get rid of before the season starts but certainly wouldn't read anything into the result of last night.

This is why I never waste my money going to friendlies we could beat Real Madrid and still get relegated its just a training exercise.

Someone at my office yesterday was selling tickets they had bought for a friendly between Liverpool and Barcelona at Wembley. They were selling them at face value which was..............£80 each.

We had a season of Holla and Ince in centre midfield yesterday s game was just a reminder of 2 seasons ago , but it's was only a friendly with a different team in each half . But it would be nice to be at full strength before the season starts, with all signings completed

You're right, he does look cumbersome. He was bought presumably to repeat the prolific partnership he had with McCormack at Leeds (44 goals in their last season) but got sent off in his first game then loaned (successfully) to Brissle City and when he came back he didn't get many starts as Dembele (now at Celtic) was favoured. In one of his rare appearances last season he collided with our keeper and inflicted a cruciate ligament injury on him, putting him out for most of the season. So you can understand why we're a little sceptical about him. Having said that he's an immense threat at setpieces so it's useful having him about.
