Chesterfield will be without Mark DeBolla.
The striker, who signed a month's loan deal from Charlton last week, has returned to The Valley after sustaining an ankle injury on his Spireites debut against Notts County on Saturday.
Chesterfield manager Roy McFarland said: "It really looked as though Mark would give us the spark we needed up front.
"It is unlikely that we will be able to get somebody else in before the game at Brighton."
Meanwhile, Glynn Hurst (back) remains on the sidelines, as does fellow striker David Reeves, who has not recovered from a calf injury in time for the game.
Brighton boss Steve Coppell will add Nathan Jones to his squad.
The Welsh winger is available again after serving a three-match suspension.
Albion still have defender Paul Watson out with a foot problem, along with long-term absentee Dean B
