Albion had to settle for a 0-0 draw at Athlone Town in their opening pre-season friendly.

Manager Micky Adams used all 19 players available to him, with Glenn Murray, Kevin McLeod and Doug Loft injured, but they could not find a way past the Eircom first division strugglers.

The Seagulls were well on top in the first half. Nicky Forster had an effort disallowed and was denied a penalty, while strike partner Jake Robinson nodded against the bar from close range.

Athlone came into the game more in the second half after Adams made eight changes at the interval.

They included the introduction at centre half of Adam Virgo as skipper, with Forster among those withdrawn.

Substitute Padraig Moran fired over a good chance for the home side but Scott Chamberlain also went close to breaking the deadlock twice for Albion.
