HT: No goals at the break but plenty of chances for Albion, with Bjordal going close on a number of occasions. Vose made a smart save to deny Smith, but Rusk's team have been on top and look confident on the ball.

How's Ahannach doing?

All over them, and doing everything except score, or so it seems from the text commentary on the official site. Fluke Newcastle winner in the 93rd. then......................

I genuinely wonder at 0-0 if they are told to play a defensive 4-4-1-1 (especially defensive in first half) to match first team tactics or if we are all over Newcastle we can switch it up and go for the win (like we would in the final 10 minutes if loosing for the 1st team).

Before I get comments, this is not a slagging off of 1st team tactics. I'm fine with that. It's more do they prioritise results at this level (unlike youth teams) or playing well and being ready to jump into first team action including tactically.

Bjordal and Sanders played up front and looked very good until, bizarrely with about 15 minutes to go, Sanders went back into the midfield. This coincided with the replacement of David Ajiboye by Ryan Longman. Ajiboye looked dangerous on the wing up till that point and could be a real prospect. Ahannach had an extremely good game on the other wing and looks dangerous. Bjordal is looking a lot better than before - he used to be content to wait for the ball to come to him but now he is chasing and looked very busy. The two central defenders - Hall and Kerr were very good too. In all truth Newcastle offered little except the occasional run from midfield. We could, and should, have been out of sight by half time. It was a very good performance

Thanks for the report. Who in your opinion is the most likely to step up to the first team?

Out of the team that I saw last night I'd say David Ajiboye, Max Sanders, Soufyan Ahannach, Josh Kerr and Ben Hall all stand a decent chance of getting game time. But, of course, tonight Dessie Hutchinson and Jayson Molumby are (probably) playing in the Cup along with the fringe first team players so, obviously, those two are nearer. Molumby in particular is a real live wire and had a good game in the last round against Barnet.

Sounds like we've got cover for the wide positions over the next couple of seasons then should we lose any of the current first team squad
