If you are a voter in Brighton Pavillion ask the Greens what it's recycling targets are and what they are actual achieving also I see the Solar panels caused a nasty fire at Hove Town Hall. West Sussex CC have now included plastic in its recycling. It's trendy to vote green and I am all for saving the planet but the facts are the world population is growing and we may need more than just solar wind and tidal just to feed the world growing population and we will still need nuclear power (sorry)
I also like the lIb policy on Nuclear subs please don't attack us while we don't have a sub at sea as we only got two

I'm now undecided. For months I've been saying I intended to vote for Lucas as a personal vote. However no matter how I dress it up it will still be interpreted as a vote for the Greens, and having read their manifesto there is no way I can in all conscience vote for a party who just see the world as a load of unrelated issues and problems where nothing impacts on anything else. Plus their leader is dreadful, and you have to worry about the intellectual calibre of a party if that's the best they can do. And of course when all's said and done they are still the party of smug middle class twats.

This is exactly the position I am in, I wish Lucas was standing on an independent ticket as she would win my vote no problem, but there is so little I agree with in the Green manifesto. There is no way I will vote for them in the local elections.

Will see if heart rules head when I get to the polling station.

Solar power and alternative sources could in fact provide all power needed,also growing world population is the real issue and must be stopped slug pellets in big macs should help.

Voting Green, definitely not a student but have to admit to being a DFL of 16 years standing.

Why am I voting Green? Well in addition to Caroline Lucas being an excellent MP who has been very good for Brighton, they are the only party that actually wants people who work to get PAID, they also want people to be able to afford somewhere to live, they want the NHS to concentrate on getting people better rather than carving up bits of the business for profit, they are also the only people seriously interested in climate change and the economic opportunities provided by a sustainable energy economy, they don't hate people just because of where they come from etc etc.

In my opinion both the Greens and the SNP have been instrumental in making Labour at least think about the people they supposed to represent. Miliband's ratings have noticeably improved since he has rediscovered his progressive voice and the Blairites have slunk into the background. This would not have happened without the grassroots campaigns on things like the NHS, the bedroom tax and affordable housing and the increasing political clout of progressive parties in a tight electoral cycle.

I hope that Labour win Hove and Kemptown, two very good candidates who I am sure will represent those constituencies well. I do however consider it vital that Pavilion does not throw away the independent voice in Parliament that is Caroline Lucas.

Director of a company, I have contracts with financial companies. Worked as a Trade Union rep for years, in fact they trained me up to start the work I do now. Apart from back in the Thatcher days when I seem to remember only having a Tory or Labour option, I have always voted Ecology/Green. I was on my estate committee for years and they were the only party who ever came to our meetings and took actions on our behalf. I have also voted Green when I lived in Tottenham and Doncaster.

Since my youth (brought up in Brighton) bands like Flux, Crass and Dead Kennedys got me into Animal rights, anti nuclear campaigning, Anarchism ideas and different ways for society to operate. The Greens ideals have always represented about 95% of my ideals, citizens income, animal rights, non nuclear etc.etc. I had many arguments with them over Falmer, although some members like Bill Randell always agreed, but in the bigger picture this has now come and gone, with us achieving a great stadium.

I think the fixation with students all voting and all being green is a bit narrow, living in this area the Greens have a core support of about 10,000, the Greens managed to capture a lot of left wing support last time and tapped into the Brighton culture (counter culture almost). They have achieved this in central Brighton and in Norwich and Bristol, all slightly alternative cosmopolitan places. Across the UK it now holds about 5% of support, read about climate change and see how its easy to muster a base support just on the one issue.

I think beyond the student fixation some opposition views have, most the voters for Greens are residents and that the city politics will have attracted people to move here, one of our new councillors up for election I see has spent time in Germany, the AV there has delivered a lot of left wing Green politicians and they have a lot of experience. They now have severn high profile people voted on as MP, Lords, MEP, London assembly members and lots of councillors over the country (higehest amount of seats in our council).

I want to see change in our old school system, I get to go to parliament now and then and its a bubble, where Labour isn't socialist enough at times, Brighton Pavilion is a rare example where we have created this change and show that we don't have to have to go along with the old ways. We are the Mods....

Having moved from the area i will not have a say this time around.
Caroline Lucas is a very good MP hence why she will win.
The actual Green Party and it's leader however appear to be bloody useless. She seems to be clueless in regards to her own manifesto and this discussion about a ban on horse racing would be enough for me to not vote green.
I have no idea who my Green Party candidate is now I have moved but I won t be voting for them this time around.
Many will agree and many will disagree but I think the current government is doing a good job and should finish what they have started

I am not currently a student. I was born in London, so I am a DFL, but was priced out of living on my home turf.

Apparently Labour canvassers have been telling people to vote Labour to keep the Tories out when what you'd get with Labour is 'Tory-lite'.

Totally agree. Caroline Lucas is how we'd ideally like our Labour MP - and by extension our Labour government - to be. No disrespect intended whatsoever to the Labour candidate Purna Sen but she's always going to be on a hiding to nothing against Caroline Lucas who is frankly wasted on the Greens and in particular on that useless backpacker Natalie Bennett who gives every impression of just being on a Gap Year and who will piss orf back to Oz sooner rather than later to write up her blog. Sooner she goes walkabout the better IMHO. Caroline Lucas on the other hand is a highly impressive constituency MP who fully deserves her re-election.

Born and bred Brightonian here. As Brighton Lines says the student thing is over stated by the loony right on here. Personally, I voted Labour in my first election in 1997, felt massively let down by the war mongering, and neo con policies and have voted with my convictions ever since. Therefore Green since then as they have been the most socialist option available. For sure their policies are not very joined up, and they have some real idiots within their party, but can anyone honestly say that isn't the case for any of the other parties? I don't think they can.
