The last leg of our half time hols is yet to be decided, having already looked at planes, Monday, and spent this afternoon at Butlitz.

Fridays day out will be on a train, shockingly enough a new experience for the kids.
Wifey favours Brighton so she can get some merchandise from the shop (her and the kids are JCL's).
I say Gun Wharf, as we are time restricted, it's all in one place, esp the restaurants, plus the tower thing.

We're pretty much equidistant between the two, and we can buy the gear either on-line or when the new kit comes out.

Although this is a 'let the people decide I may well call it an AV vote assuming it goes against me!

Yes I know it should be GWQ

Nothing in the Club Shop but you can't beat a leisurely gander through the North Laines - much better than the usual array in a place like Gunwharf

Are you serious?

Brighton is better for drinking and clubbing but if you want shops, it's got to be... Brighton.

How did she end up stuck with you?

Brighton - unless you're after Adidas gear. The Gunwharf shop is great. Nearest non-online thing we seem to have is the Reebok outlet at the Marina. Which is not the same thing at all.

Last October we had a week's break near Chichester. Me, Mrs Nylon and our 1 year old.

On one day we had a trip into Brighton as Mrs N had never been before. Frankly, it was embarrassing. Litter blowing about everywhere, piles of bin bags waiting to be collected, really poor customer service in restaurants that were over-priced, under-staffed and just generally poor VFM to be honest. Really disappointing.

The following day we went to Gun Wharf. Piss easy to park, had a great meal on the waterfront watching the ferries come and go. Waiting staff made a real fuss over Florence, bringing her colouring books, special kids meals, nothing too much trouble. The whole area looks and feels vibrant. Great memories of a really fun family day.

My vote would be Gun Wharf.

Gun wharf for Ralph Barbour GANT etc, & shopping is better value. Also sone good surrounding towns & sights. Lymington & new forest, car + tent. Job done.

Blimey I wasn't expecting the odd positive for GWQ.

Is this serious? Know we're on a Brighton site but Gun Wharf didn't do anything for me time I went. Boring plastic place. Plus it's surrounded by a shiptip(sp)

Completely different audience!

If you want smaller quirky boutique shops, plus the mix of the two different cultures of the Lanes and North Laine, then Brighton. If you want outlet Chavtastic shopping experience then Gunwharf.

Each pleases in it's own way...

The seaside.
As others have asked, can you clarify who or what is Gun Wharf? Most people (myself included) have never heard of it prior to this thread. Is it something only people who drive know about (my best guess)?

Gun Wharf is about the only place in Portsmouth not to be full of chavs, which is an achievement in itself.

Gun Wharf is a shopping centre in Portsmouth? Why the hell would any human being with half a braincell go to either (a) a shopping centre, or (b) Portsmouth. Let alone a combination of the two. I don't get it. Why not do your shopping at the f***ing Whitgift Centre or something if so? *happy to have never heard of 'Gun Wharf' until now*

Apart from cheap toothless Dockside whores, I imagine Brighton is your best bet for all other purchases. Happy to help x

It's all in a mile square, including plenty of different restaurants, views over the seaport, plus the Spinnaker Tower, all within a few hundred yards from the train station.

The people have spoken, I have decided...

..The Stat's are off to Gun Wharf Quay.

Ah, the thing is, we don't have a day to spend, just a few hours around lunch time.

I've been to Gun Wharf and the Historic Dockyard a few times in the last couple of years - in fact we were at Gun Wharf a few weeks back. What with the ferries, the docks, (current and historical) and the Tower there is undoubtedly a bit of a 'vibe' down there, and the area is MILES better than it used to be - but I still prefer Brighton. Gun Wharf is definitely worth going to though, if you haven't been. Also if you live outside both areas and you're driving then Portsmouth is a much better choice. (We went by train though last time which was great)
