Brighton major trophies 1 Palace major trophies Nil

I believe Man Utd & Liverpool count their league & cup triumphs accumulated way back in the early nineteen hundreds - so why shouldn't we ?

What a pathetic thread, 1910 BLOODY HELL What have you done since? lose to Manure in the 1993 FA Cup Final, I think the our Zenith Data Cup Final victory is on level par with the charity shield so it's 1 all.........

I'm with WCP on this too. Those who disagree don't seem to know much about the historical significance.

At the time the Charity Shield was contested between the winners of the amateur Southern League and the professional Football League (comprised only of clubs from the North and the Midlands). So in effect it was a play-off between the Northern and Southern champions. The winners of the Shield could then claim to be 'Champions of all England'. We won, causing a major shock by beating Aston Villa.

So not only did we win the Shield, but by doing so we could also claim to be overall English Champions.

I wonder if anyone who disrespects this achievement can truly call themselves a Brighton fan.

I agree. I don't get why some people disrespect the Albion's finest day and Charlie Webb's sides great achievement. Sad really, especially as I think his daughter died not so long ago.

I think Charlie Webb was also re-appointed manager when still a prisoner of war?

Our excuse=NONE, Poor. I hope Liverpool Humiliate them Sheep shagging imbreds.

since when was the charity shield a major trophy?

since the winners of the Southern League played the winners of the Football league when the Football league was a closed mainly northern shop. The winner of both leagues played each other as the best two sides in the land and the winner, Champions of England. Your question is a bit like asking Liverpool, "since when was winning division 1 a major trophy"
