Annie Nightingale is Brighton born and bred. She went to the same school as my mother. That's a tad unfair Bozza.

*just checked her wiki page. Now, my mum swears Annie went to Varndean and was there when she was. My old dear was born in 36 so it's possible...

Correct - my dad worked with Annie in the 60s. In Brighton.

Looks like classic clickbait to me. I'd imagine that this kind of article generates more shares and site traffic than 'Rochdale is actually a rubbish place to live' would. No doubt you'll see it multiple times on your personal social media streams over the coming days.

Interestingly this article suggests that Annie Nightingale isn't a Brighton resident anymore. I thought I hadn't seen her in The Caxton recently ...

It's a great place to live. A vibrant undiscriminating city than offers something for everyone. Yes, there is a left-wing bias to the council and some of the policies like the banning of beach smoking are ridiculous, but for all that, it's a great place to live, study or work.

Incidentally, Gaz from Supergrass lives in Oxford these days. Saw him play a homecoming gig at St Georges Church in Kemp Town at the Great Escape festival.

Don't forget the million, billion, hipster beards and people with kids called 'Atticus' and 'Hermione'.

Having said that: seeing as you don't live here, I don't see it's your place to moan about it particularly!
I still like this place. But it's not cool or trendy any more. Not by a long stretch.

Again it looks like I'll be in the minority, but I can't wait to get out of Brighton.

I can't think of much going for the City.

Cons:
Sky high house prices.
Sky high rental prices.
Big homeless problem.
Big drugs problem.
The roads have become a nightmare.
Violent and Sexual crimes have risen in the past 3 years in Central Brighton.
Trains.
Dog crap and huge amounts of litter all over the place.
Hipster problem.

Pro's:
By the sea.
BHA & The Amex.
You could argue The Lanes but beggars/homeless every 20 meters asking for train fare or money for dog food etc ruin it for me.

Don't worry, I'll be gone in 6 months.

Yes, in my opinion.

But where I'm off to, you may slate based on your experiences, but I'd call one of the best cities in the world.
Horses for courses and all that.

but where exactly?

It gets worse......

The proposed smoking ban in Brighton and Hove’s beaches and in parks could also be extended to the outside of pubs and restaurants.

The consultation questionnaire that was published last week includes separate questions covering the outside seating areas of both types of venue.

Any ban would not be enforceable by law. But the council is keen to find out whether the public have an appetite for further smoke-free eating and drinking.

If so, officials are likely to work with pub and restaurant owners and operators to encourage them to bring in their own extra restrictions.
--------------------

As a non-smoker, married to a smoker, I already spend chunks of the night sitting on my own guarding her drinks..... if she has to wander half way across the city to find somewhere she is allowed to smoke, we may as well not bother going out!

What do you expect, I was never in favour of a smoking ban, although none of my family smoke, the point being that people that like to ban things are never satisfied, never.

Why anyone would think that someone who wants to ban something then when it is banned would sit back and say that was for the good of society but now I must allow responsible adults to make their own considered choices regarding a legal past time is beyond me.

People that want to ban things like to think they are superior and strive to impose their own narrow views on everyone else.

I've seen two people being critical of the name Atticus on this thread. Personally I love names like this. There should be more Atticus's and Leopold's and Endeavour's. STRONG names.

Exactly. Like William Wilberforce, say.
