what tourists will be left? you understand all those people from worthing, portlade are filling the tills in Brighton right? as much as students bring the culture and general vibe to brighton, they certainly dont bring alot of £ to the shops. i say this as im about to drive in to brighton for the day shopping. if i had to go by train (which i like, nothing against) i'd limit what i might purchase due to practicalities, and theres a good chance we'd go elsewhere.

Rubbish. There is shale gas and shale oil being extracted by the process of fracking. The recent geological survey estimated there is 1 billion barrels of shale oil under Hampshire, Kent and Sussex. Whether that is recoverable reserves is another matter. Shale oil can be adapted by adding chemicals in refineries. In any case you missed the point in that unconventional sources of oil will eventually become inadequate.

I may have met some but none of my friends (and I have more than 30) have ever driven or aspired to drive. You find that odd? I guess I don't hang out at the same sort of places - racetracks, red light districts, illegal dog fighting rinks, whatever - that you do. There is no reason for anyone whose job isn't as a professional driver to own or use a vehicle in Central Brighton. Those that do are at best scum and at worst contract killers. Sad that you defend them. How do you even sleep at night?
