One day we'll get a National Anthem too.Part of me finds it mildly disappointing that we don’t celebrate our national day.
It sometimes moves due to the utter wokeness of the COE and their insistence on celebrating Easter.Beyond "some point in April" I'm not entirely sure when St George's Day is.
Part of me finds it mildly disappointing that we don’t celebrate our national day. The other part of me thinks this kind of thing is for noddy little countries like Ireland and Australia, not for a 1,000+ year old country like England.
Fact is, if enough people cared then it would be a money-spinner, just like St Patrick’s Day is, and then there would be St George’s crosses everywhere but they don’t.
I do share the gruff-voiced man’s sentiment about St Patrick’s Day in England though.
Good point. St George's day sounds like a great excuse for a few pints of Guinness and a curry. I'm in.But ignoring St Georges day whilst celebrating every other nations, regions, age groups, genders, ethnic groups, political parties, health, musical interests national day is just so English, don't ya think
There's a bloke in Lewes who flies the flag of St Edmund in his garden, England's original patron saint before he was usurped by George. I wonder who'd win in a saint-off?
It would be good to use the day to celebrate our great contribution to literature, industry and even the diversity that has influenced our culture and society throughout history. Don't think it can compete with a pint of Guinness though.
