Yes. I read years ago (reliable source, can't remember what) that WE had the highest salary bill in Div 1 in 83. Not Liverpool. Not ManU. We also had players on 6 year contracts, owing to our inferiority complex (offering players the moon on a stick because, after all, *who on earth* would want to play for us?).
