My point is , I think students should vote at their (previous) home address, admittedly the point is arguable , but in towns with large campus populations , results are likely to be distorted.
Perhaps, but my point is is it a distortion? Because even if all the individual students 'f*** off' after three years the student population is an ongoing part of the town.
I don't think the Greens have won 23 seats just from students anyway.

Thats true i know, what percentage ?

I cannot find a figure. I did find something on the Sussex Uni website which said Brighton has an unusually high level of students though, over 10% of the population of Brighton are students. Combined with the unusually high number of commuters were do have a very distorted demographic down here.

Pre the universitys, I believe Brighton was as true (rotton bourough) blue as Worthing and Rottingdean.

Taken from Wikipedia.

The largest majority received by an individual is also Sir Cooper Rawson, reelected with a majority of 62253 at Brighton in 1931. The largest majority received by a woman is 38823 by the Countess of Iveagh elected MP for Southend in 1931.

This assumption that all the green votes are from students is simply laughable. Of all my acquaintences who have voted green none are students and are all in full-time employment. I expected the Greens to be the largest party in this council but the gains in Withdean, Preston park, Goldsmid, Central Hove, Hollingdean and Brunswick were pretty astonishing and should shoot that lazy response right down.

it is a very recent phenomenon all this despite the protestations twas ever thus, and the deluded claims that it was an eternal hotbed of socialism. whats funniest is hove residents lecturing the people of rottingdean about being blue rinse tories. people with very very short memories......

I am aware of Hove's history thank you. And I have nothing against Rottingdean itself other than I think it's an anomaly that they are tacked onto Brighton. Their issues are very different to ours and vice versa.....but maybe they would benefit from one of my lectures?

Where's TLO ?He seems to have gone missing, no doubt thinking up some more "ingenious" word play :lolol:

pat hawkes is probably currently on top of is house trying to push an anvil off the roof, or painting a door onto a brick wall on his way home, or setting up some acme explosives painted as a birthday cake and leaving it outside his front door, as part of their epic 10 year wile ceyote and roadrunner style feud.

Whereas less jobs, smaller wages and destruction of the environment but lower tax sounds excellent

But you can't keep plundering the taxpayers pocket.

I'm not surprised with the Greens win and despite some peoples doubting, watch them team up with Labour. Labour gets in via the backdoor - something they HATED happening to the Lib Dems at national level. Pity the Greens couldn't have got rid of those idiots Morgan and Mitchell though.

I predict the new Green council will :

> Raise council tax next year ( probably at above inflation )
> Reduce rubbish collections to once every two weeks
> Increase parking fees
> Look at options for a congestion charge

On the plus side maybe they might increase recycling collections to every week and introduce green waste collections.

Think you've got it wrong, he's currently got a swollen, outsize red throbbing hand and is unable to type due to pat hawkes leaving a mousetrap in his tin of cream cakes.

We'll all be wearing fingerless gloves and eating cold baked beans out of the tin. Huddled on street corners quoting Kafka. The Greens are communists nothing more nothing less.
What do any of those things have to do with Communism? Or are you AIMING to make yourself look like an ignorant twat?

I ask merely for information.

Brighton - In your face
Green got 33% of the vote. Is B&H made up of a third of students? Nah, just forward thinking excited voters who don't want to live in the dark ages. Viva the revolution.
Man I love Ms Lucas. *rubs knees*

Of course you're totally right, what I'm saying is, even if it WERE the case that it's just students from out of town, and they all vote Green, I still don't think the student vote is a less valid part of the make up of Brighton than the Rottingdean vote.
