[Albion] Brighton & Hove Albion vs Wolverhampton Wanderers *** Official Match Thread ***

If we are going to bin the inexperienced tinkerman who has no clue I assume we are going to do it with someone who does have a track record at our current level, just just like we did when gamble Hyypia failed, when signing CH. We had all heard of him.

It follows therefore that as some fans want someone who knows what they are doing at this level, as they don’t believe Potter does, that we will have heard of him.

It is very unlikely we are going to replace a gamble with another unproven gamble considering where we are in the table.

So there ya go, now name him :lolol:

That doesn’t really hold up at all, does it? At one time in the 60s and 70s maybe, but now the world of football is huge and the options limitless. Be honest, what percentage of Brighton fans would have heard of Bielsa before he got his job at Leeds? Many of us now would take someone like that while having only a very hazy knowledge of their achievements, this is actually now a task for specialist executive search, not for a messageboard, even one as fab as this one

Bielsa plays a very particular style and needs the players for it to have any chance of success. He took a while to settle in the second tier of English football, so no I would not want someone like him, with no EPL experience in our current situation

If we are to change manager at this point it cannot be anyone but a proven manager at this level imo, unless you accept almost certain relegation...and I know you are not a fan of that!

Before you say it I do not think Potter will take us down but I confess I thought he was 45 mins from losing his job last night!

So, your suggestion is that we simply wait until someone else is recruited and then when they have a bad run we can than decide they're shit but offer no alternatives. Maybe for consistency we could do the same with all the players we recruit.

Not my job Guv, I simply point out the shit, someone else's job to clear it up

Maybe we could get NSC to pick the team and tactics as well? I'm happy to set up a poll 24 hours before every game if the brass agree they'll abide by it. Even the collective idiocy on here probably wouldn't have matched Burn up against Adama?

Or we could let the people whose job and money it is decide and we could offer opinions as with any other fan base in the country?

Genuinely wondering if you’ve met any football fans. Don’t reach for the smelling salts now, but yes they’ve been known to pass the odd judgment or two on players

Yes indeed. And the vast majority I have met have also had opinions on who should be recruited as well rather than say 'That’s the job of the expert recruiters the club employs' :)

You mean just like they chose Hughton? Actually some things do change, but alas time stands still in your little world

By all means say get rid of him but at least have a suggestion on who should take over and why they would be suitable. Demanding potter should go but having absolutely no idea on who should take over is the behaviour of an 8 year old.

Nature abhors a vacuum...... but in your case maybe not.

I’m not really sure where you are going with this. It is not unreasonable to have doubts about a manager and players we see every week without knowing the identity of potential replacements, seen rarely by us. The club will have a succession plan and will be monitoring replacements. This will include the kind of background checks that fans would never have access to. I doubt that the club would be ready to activate such backup plans so soon into GP’s contract but at some point they may do so. That part is their job. Ours is to comment on what we see in front of us. When we were all chanting ‘Lloyd out’ in the 80s I don’t remember seeing anyone walking up and down the North Stand pleading ‘but do you chaps have a replacement in mind ?’

Just making the point that it's very simple to say 'Potter Out' and a little harder to make a positive contribution to the replacement (as I think the 'who should replace Potter' thread and poll demonstrated), particularly when you need to consider what this new appointment should change and what they need to achieve.

It's a bit like saying 'We need a younger quicker Murray' without suggesting who that younger quicker Murray is, or 'We need a proven goal scorer' without any clue as to who or how much. I particularly like 'proven goal scorer', as if we sign them and they score, I was right all along, and if we sign them and they don't, I can point out that I said 'proven' and was right all along :lolol:

Personally, I find statements like that completely pointless but I'm well aware that everyone has an opinion  .

Ok, name a single fan at the club who knew anything about the Polish pair before they were linked with us? I’d repeat the point I made to Icy, the world of football is too vast and complicated these days for stuff like that. Of course fans can have opinions but it rarely relates to what happens with the modern, highly specialised recruitment methods and searches we employ. I talked up a League 2 youngster the other day in the near certain knowledge the club may have a hundred(s) others ahead of him in their scouting networks

True but we have access to so much more info than then. Apparently we are now more intelligent type of football fan so you would hope a suggestion of a replacement rather than a rabid potter out.
I have issues with some of his team selection (Burn against a pacer winger is never going to work) but I can’t think of anyone ( who would be interested) who would IMO do a better job.

I’ve said ‘we need a younger, quicker Murray’ lots of times. I don’t pay much attention to other teams so have no idea who that player could be.

Tell you what, they’d be many an 8-year-old capable of having a conversation and constructing an argument without the need for witless personal digs. Projection, much?

I suspect you would bore them as much as you bore the rest of us.

You still haven’t come up with any prospective replacements. It’s not difficult, either you have somebody or you haven’t.

If you did then we could debate them.

As for digs, you certainly like putting the boot into potter knowing that there will be no comeback.

Do you feel better now having got your bad temper out on people you don’t know on the Internet? I genuinely hope so

After the first goal and before the Wolves goal there were two runs which were not picked out ball went back rather than forward. We are still not hitting into the space behind the opposition enough personally think that is our best option though clearly should not be the only option.

It would certainly suit players like Connolly and Maupay to play those passes; i just some times think our players have a reluctance to make those passes in fear of misplacing the pass. Lallana certainly makes those passes, so I hope his presence encourages players to take a few more risks in their through balls.

Time will tell. Let loose against Man City; let's see if our players have the bottle to thread that pass.
