[Albion] Brighton & Hove Albion vs Swansea City *** Official Match Thread ***

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Nice to wake up to YET ANOTHER win for the Albion.

A bit surprised* to see the match thread has descended into another debate on Connolly and the relative ability as a manager of Solksjaer.

For those that went to the game how did we play. The highlights made it look like Swansea could consider themselves unlucky not to have got something from the game. Is that a fair reflection?

*On reflection I'm not sure why this would surprise me. I've been on this board long enough to know better!

Swansea hit the woodwork two or three times, which could be considered unlucky, but I never really thought we were likely to lose the game. We looked assured for the majority of the game, and didn’t play as if we were under any pressure.

The overreaction by some posters to Aaron's goal celebration is one of the most hilarious things I have read on here for a while. Talk about first world problems.

I thought it was quite nice last night for Bidwell to share a wry smile and a laugh with a young Albion fan who booed him in East lower. Not often you see acknowledgement of individual shouts but to do it with humour in respect of the boy's age and when 2-0 down was credit to him. (This isn't a comment on Connolly, doesn't bother me how he chooses to celebrate.)

That picture is brilliant, ignore the foreground and just look at each of the individuals in the background.
Approx ~27 in view, the variety on show covers pretty much all tastes and walks of life.
Not many in replica shirts / scarfs either.

One asleep at the back, one with head in hands, big smirk from fella in the front and big-Bertha gobbing off large - brilliant.

“See, I told you I was good enough to score goals against Championship opposition”.

Erm, yes, we all agree mate.

What a bellend, honestly. His attitude will stop him ever making it as a top class footballer. What a shame, because he has the potential.

You do realise why he cupped his ears, don't you?

If this is genuinely the case then I take it all back. It’s fair game doing it to opposition fans (although I’d still have a word about just focusing on his game and doing his job as a professional if I was Potter).

Without a doubt aiming it at the Swansea fans.

There were a lot of the NSK in A block last night singing his name. Had he scored at the North end instead I would have expected him to go over to them with a pretty different gesture.

With the moon shining resplendently over the stadium last evening, someone should have gone up to Ditchling Beacon with some decent kit.

Yes, it does.

The photo of him doing it is on the club website!

Can you honestly not accept that doing that celebration after scoring a deflected goal against lower league opposition in front of 9,000 fans just completely shows that he has an attitude problem? Do you think he’ll do it again when he scores his next goal in 20 games time? Are we all supposed to say ‘oh Aaron, how wrong we were’ (I would LOVE to have to say that by the way.

He's not the first Albion player to cup his ear to away fans, and I don't remember anyone really giving a rat's arse about it in the past. I don't think its an attitude problem, I think you're looking for anything to use as a stick to beat him with. The sad thing is that Connolly has been coming in for flak from some sections, and yesterday when gets a run out in the team, he scores two goals and he still can't do anything right in some peoples eyes. What’s far more disappointing than his celebration, is that some of our 'supporters' have completely written him off.

I think we can all agree there's a world of difference doing it at away fans compared to home fans.

I mean, I would LOVE to see him doing whilst running the length of the Holmesdale Road Stand...

My take on Earcupgate - I do think its a bit naff for a Premier League striker to cup his ear at the away fans after he's just scored against a bunch of 2nd division reserves (and then gone on to do the earcup for both goals). Given the low-key circumstances, I'd have felt the same had it been ANY of our players doing this gesture at their fans, tbh.

I'm not going to lose my shit over it though. Its hardly a big deal, and I certainly wouldn't conflate this mundane incident into being an indication of him having an "attitude problem".

I went to the game last night and have read through the 42 pages of the match day thread hoping to find some comment on the game (thanks guinness boy ) to confirm or deny my views of it . Instead only to find both ends of the Connolly spectrum raving at each other !
I think that i am some what in the middle because as a Brighton fan i cheered when he scored both goals and stood to applaud him as he was subbed BUT that being said i would rather hear about an albion player in the news for something other than the things he has been attributed to .
So do i think he has been a dick , undoubtedly ! ( i fail to see how anybody could reasonably think otherwise )
Do i also think that he has sometimes carried that onto the pitch , unfortunately yes
Does it annoy me that i think he falls over to easily , again yes
However all that being said i will continue to support him while he wears the stripes and GP selects him for the team all the while hoping that he will improve both in attitude and performance to help the team progress .
