Unless he's 95%+ fit, I would have started with Knockaert on the bench.

Understand your thinking but you have it back to front.
Start with the 95% player and see how long they can go on for [may surprise you].
If you bring him on as sub with 30 mins to go and actually only last 20 you need another sub or go a man down.

Always best to start with your highest quality XI

We did against Charlton, that was in less than 90 minutes...but we also only need 2 goals and drag this to penalties

And we've now got to the point that if the injury gets worse (within reason) he'll have the next two months to get over it. No point wondering now.... Bold and correct move for sure.
