What a great way to run a football club. Hopefully they will send the money saved on his contract to charity, to help pay off the 57m debt.

If he really wanted to play he could just agree to cancel the extension contract.

I did think that, however I imagine there's not much use in playing Green if the club want rid of him in the summer anyway.
With nothing to play for, they may as well give their longer term keepers as much game time as possible.

Maybe if they were contenders for the play-offs, it could have been a consideration.

Perhaps they should have discussed this earlier (well, maybe they did, but one or both parties dug their heels in and made it difficult) then he could have moved on in January - either on loan, or following the cancelling of his contract.

Mind you, I expect money plays a big part in all this, especially if he's on megabucks............................
