I don't think it's a coincidence our home form has been so comparably poor for so long. The Amex was designed to accentuate sound both positive and negative.

Our away fans are brilliant. Our home fans moan and grumble. It clearly affects the performance.

And if fans are the problem, how do you explain the 1 (one) home win in 2020 when there were no fans in attendance from March through to December?

Tbh I thought we'd lost it before that, at the half time subs. Mwepu off, Mac on, Solly moved over to the right.

First half we had Cucu /Solly on the left and Veltman / Tariq on the right. This is where we got our best moves from imo.

Second half Mac wasn't wide left and Solly just didn't work out.

Then taking Lamptey off, Webbo on and pushing Veltman forward again didn't work as he can't make those runs and passes that Lamptey can.

So it went flat.crowd got on the players backs and it all went t1ts up.

Gutted as they were there for the taking.

We did not get the ball to Lamptey enough, or quickly enough to allow him full on runs at people. Trossard showed how you deal with packed defences , you dribble your way and make them make mistakes. in retrospect its a shame Samiento didn't come on as he has that sort of skill as well.

Yet again we show our inability to break down a team that sits behind the ball.

It’s our most fundamental problem and has been since Potter arrived. Is it the managers tactics or the club failing to invest in our strike force? Bit of both for me.

They have won just four of their 27 Premier League matches against teams starting the day in the relegation zone, scoring just twice in the last eight.

It’s a real problem. Trossard apart, we don’t have attackers (or pace) to unlock sides who sit back. Our set up works well against sides who have a go against us as we can pass through them, but we need some different options to unlock these ‘poorer’ teams (see also: the Norwich game).

I said last week (even before the match!) that Klopp’s rock n roll football suits us down to the ground. FB’s 50 yards up field, Albion teams mug that space. When we play a solid team or counter attackers, it’s a whole different ball game. A season isn’t defined by second half performances against Citeh (still losing) and Liverpool.

Howe put 9 behind the ball, just Wilson targeting Sanchez throughout, the team nonplussed by Dunk and Duffy.

The conundrum …. how to breakdown and consistently beat managers/teams who sit deep in huge numbers?

A conundrum that needs solving if we are to advance.

Oh well just got back and that was a really poor performance. Sanchez saved us a 1pt with his sending off. As for the rest Lamptey and cucurella looked ok but no movement or penetration upfront. It was often 1 against 5.

Played at a walking pace, stupid ****ing passing about at the back inviting pressure yet again and Sanchez, what the **** was that clown doing today? He made two brilliant passes but the rest of his game was shocking. Flapping at stuff, shit distribution and finally the red card.
Mwepu was absent, Maupay was horseshit when he came on, Mac Allister was wasteful. We lost what little urgency we had once Lamptey went off.
Newcastle are shit, really shit, but once again we lower our performance when playing a bottom club.

You are spot on here. However to be fair, even the best teams can struggles against teams that are well organised and defensive.

Frustrating to watch but something we need to deal with in the way you suggest.

Where is our Knockaert or Izquidero or LuaLua? We have no one who can change a game, actually we do but he’s a right back.
We could have done a lot worse than throw the young lad Sarmiento on, we desperately need a forward player who can cause havoc by just taking players on, it’s all too ‘safe’ IMO.
