FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
when the line ups were announced I knew we had little chance.

You cannot play top opposition and expect to win with NO pace in the side.

These players are in the 2nd 11 as it were for a reason.. they simply do not move/get around the pitch well enough or quick enough to compete at the top level. Bar a couple of exceptions.

GP should have played the same team as against Preston, AS HE INDICATED HE PLANNED TO! We may have got tonked in the same way, but I think it would have been a better decision for the squad too

I’ll bite. Lots do, inc.me because I’d like to see us win a major trophy one day. We blew the championship, came within a whisker at Wembley in 83 and so the cupboard remains bare. Imagine it happening in our lifetimes, the first to see one in 119 years history so far. Be amazing!

1983 . . . . the root of my permanent dislike of Manure.

So what did we learn from last nights game

1. We played well in spells but conceding just before HT is never good.
2. Man Uniteds second team is better than Brightons second team.
3. Comentary was and will be biased towards the bigger team.

The bad points regarding loosing last night

1. This reduces the opertunites for our second team players to remain match fit.
2. Ali J was holding his hamstring which could be a blow as he has started the season well.

What does the future hold

1. If we finish this season one place above relegation then that should be seen as consolidation during these difficult times.
2. GP is doing a good job with what he has during these difficult times.
3. The club are cutting their cloth to suit these difficult times.
4. We might just end up being very grateful the club is not spending beyond its means during this difficult times.

Let’s not go here.

The facts are:
-He took us up playing some good football.
- With a bottom 3 budget he kept us in the hardest league in the world for two seasons.

How he did it is immaterial because he did it.

If you didn’t like it, you didn’t need to attend.

Potter has taken us down a different route playing more entertaining, and had a slightly better outcome last season.

It is anticipated that he will do better this year, and the signs are very good so far.

We should be celebrating the current team rather than keep looking back.

Hey, people, calm the **** down. It was a makeshift team in a cup. Who actually gives a shit!?
The biggest thing this evening were the injuries to the three everton players.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - the dividend for merely making up the numbers in the Premier league ought to be that we are competitive in cup competitions. And to be fair, we are generally. Last night was massively disappointing because we could have squeaked through on another day. If Henderson hadn't saved a worldy at 1-0 we might have gone through. But overall, we just weren't quite as good as we know we could have been.

We made it into the last 16, losing to Man Utd. What more do you expect?

I expected exactly that. Their second string striker is Juan Mata, ours is an unknown Swede who hasn't played a Premier league game, so it stands to reason. I was just responding to Plooks when he said "who gives a shit?"

Well I do, I'm disappointed. We are miles behind the top 6 in terms of resources, even for these games. But we are at least competitive in a way we wouldn't be if we were a Championship side up against Man Utd's second string. That's what makes it disappointing.

I'm disappointed at going out of a cup; getting to quarter finals (and beyond) is rare and exciting! I thought our second string was as good as, and for an 60-70 minutes actually outperformed their second string. That was encouraging, with experience like Propper missing and why I am disappointed all at the same time! The reality is that players like Pogba, Rashford, Van de Beek, etc. can be poor and then have a moment of quality (Or luck in Pogbas case) in an instant.
Our players have to be at their very best to have those moments, and any shade off that makes us a little toothless. I am still convinced we are due some huge slices of luck in an attacking sense..
I was also disappointed for Bernardo - I have been a fan of his "potential" but thought he struggled and I wasn't sure why he was moved to central midfield at a crucial time of the game, with sanders coming on later.. Also for Ali J - another set-back (hopefully not too long) at a point when he was showing a level of consistency . 4 points from next two games and we will forget this one..

Going toe to toe with top teams is not going to result in many wins but as we are no longer set up to defend and play on the break the result is likely to be the same anyway. I know which style I’d rather watch. I didn’t have a problem with Wednesday’s game as we gave it a go but it didn’t go our way. I am still pissed about the officials influenced game on Saturday. With non biased officials we could have got at least a draw and maybe even a win.

Your general point is fine but Hughton did beat Man U in both home games and 3-2 game was one of the best I've ever seen us play. And in the Man U home game in July(?) we appeared to be defensive and appallingly set up

Agreed, I was not knocking CH. The 3-2 United game was memorable. My point is that going toe to toe with inferior players needs the opposition to have an off day, United were having one of those on Saturday until the ref and VAR intervened, just imo obviously. Garth Crooks did not agree with me

Wednesday we were poor at the front and the back and United were good enough to take advantage.

The game last season we were beaten within a few minutes due to not being able to cope with the press initially and then we were swept aside in possibly the best performance against us last season.

We no longer have the players to play like we did under CH, even if we wanted to.

Ain't gonna happen.
Top class strikers start at £50m plus. We need to find more goals within the existing squad. Even another 6-8 goals would make a big difference. Maupay needs to be 13-14. Connolly 6-7. Trossard 6-7. More from the CB's. And a few more from midfield.

Spot on. We'd have a much better chance of hitting those numbers if our set piece deliveries were better.

It drives me nuts watching us hit the first defender from corners time after time or over-hitting it and sailing behind for a goal kick.

And as for free kicks; we're far too keen to try some elaborate short passing which usually goes wrong so we either give it back to the opposition or end up passing it all the way back to Ryan!

Glad we've signed another striker but it would help if we could sign another player who can deliver consistently from set pieces and a lot cheaper too.....!
