Actually, we are better than that.
We made a series of (uncharacteristic) errors and this was compounded by naive tactics when it mattered.
We still would probably list but we were dreadful in the crucial first half.

If he’s given time on the Monday Night Football, Gary Neville will have a field day dissecting shocking first half defending as a team.

Overall a decent display. Key is always to hold them off for the first 20 minutes, play through that pressure until they stop being so relentless but today the first goal came too early and after that, when you move more bodies forward, you are obviously vulnerable against this level of quality.

Shit happens, its the 29th time in the last year they score 3+ goals and its not a coincidence.

Every goal from our own mistakes.
Need to cut that out

Its a game of mistakes, they are done everywhere on the pitch for 90 minutes. To force more of them and punish the mistakes is what separates teams. It wont be cut out, any time you see a goal scored for or against Brighton you can look at someone and say "did a mistake".

Disappointing that we made some mistakes which led to us conceding, but we'll learn from it. Clearly Potter noticed what needed to change judging by the second half, I'm sure he'll take some of that onto the training ground, we'll continue to learn and grow.

The second half was nice to watch and shows what we can be about, we just need to find a way to do that for the full 90. Tariq Lamptey was incredible when he came on, another plus.

Also nice to see that we got 5 shots on target, that might not seem like an achievement, but if I'm not mistaken City had faced a total of 6 shots on target in the 8 previous games so far this season.

Defeat today is not the end of the world, we move on, and we are still 4th, at least tonight.

Is Biss being placed on the naughty step? in the squad so obviously fit but again not involved.

I think its about where his head is, never easy psychologically when there is a lot going on in your head.

I reckon GP knows his players

Sky are just pumping Potter up to such heights, shut up and talk about City for Feck sake.

Same.

We looked slow, sloppy and gave away far too much, first half, compounded by a sloppy Sanchez 'flap', for their first goal - okay, he did well, other than that - but it left us chasing and we didn't really look up for it, the first 45.

Lamptey made a difference, and I wish he'd come on sooner, but we actually looked more like we wanted something out of the game, despite being 0 - 3 down.
Sadly, that's an awful lot to ask against a class team like City, but we had a few chances before the penalty to get back into it, which looked impossible at half-time.

All in all, I wasn't expecting anything from this game, but we basically gave them too much of a head start to do anything meaningful afterwards.
Get an unexpected 3 points at Anfield and it will all be well. :)

i still think Lamptey plays in the wrong position. his speed and skill are amazing and he showed touches of Mo Salah on several occassions. He really could be the striker weve been crying out for.

He had two players ahead of him but Moder chooses to play it back why? Man City were brilliant but its no surprise they score so many goals as the ball is always going forward....

City dont play with a striker especially one that's good in the air so we dont need 3 CBS. Lamptey is susceptible in defence and Veltman kept grealish quiet last year.

Still clueless after all these years.

He needs to take a few shots - same with Cucurella. They both seem reticent to have a pop (same oj' same ol') as do most of our strikers.
Too many passes and not enough confidence to actually take a shot.

I wouldnt mind seeing it but you really want him involved more than strikers usually are.

did that individual decision really matter?
lets be honest football is about mistakes, the more you make the more opportunities the opposition have, the better the opposition the more mistakes they are going to punish!!!

Outclassed unfortunately but a lot better in the second half.

Kevin Friend was absolutely awful.

First early goal changed everything, was an infringement on Sanchez from where I was sitting but will have another look later, at least we won’t be last of MOTD

It was ugly, bad and good... I remain a bit mystyfied by our lack of mobility in the middle of the park. The aging axis of Gross and Lallana with the occasional 'lackadaisical' Moder is always going to be a gamble at this level and City drove through it for me all too often. I get a bit frustrated for Mac, as he's a very, very good player and maybe this was a game to start Mwepu ? He's got mobility on his side and BOY did we improve when he came on. It was probably a big ask to expect more than a cameo from Tariq, but he's getting there. I would love to see a more expansive starting XI up at Liverpool... I'd be very disappointed to see that line-up get the nod again to be honest, but we shall see.

However, having said all of that - we'd probably have lost handsomely anyway as Pep was clearly determined to teach us a lesson... after all we dared to beat them last time around, and I suspect he likes to hold a grudge.
