This was a good result - despite the fact that Brighton got away with not only a foul, but got a penalty that Maupay converted.

Once Leicester got a goal I fully expected them to push on and draw, or even win it - but the team showed a lot of resilience to withstand the pressure. This bodes well for the future.

Regarding Cucurella whilst i was amazed at his stamina and contribution going forward i did think defensively he was sometimes not quite in the right place at the right time ( bypassed too easily for their goal)
No word about Biss, or to a lesser extent Welbeck, allowing Tielemans the freedom of Falmer?

As said when defending Duffy a week ago.
It'll take the whole team to stop Vardy scoring.

The whole team didn't stop Vardy from scoring.

If you like listening to pundits / commentators analysing a defeat - to Brighton - who doesn't - then can recommend BBC Radio Leicester's post match prog
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p09tvlgz

Annoyingly the Radio Sussex version isn't available although it was pretty curtailed i think.
Warren and JC's analysis and Palace/Swansea preview will be available on the Albion Unlimited podcast/prog tomorrow from 9pm
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p09tyrhm

The Swansea game is live from 7pm on Wednesday. (kick off 7.30pm)

There were also several calls about Albion on 606 this week. This fan argued that Potter is "world class"

and PS: if you missed it Glenn Murray co presented Football Focus on Saturday which included *that* interview with Yves Bissouma

Having just read through entire thread i think it is clear that most , if not all , would agree wholeheartedly with you and not Shearer .
Also agree re Trossard , it was great to see him getting a huge round of applause when he came over to take corners in the first half , a player who i feel was much underappreciated in the past .

Still early days though and if he was too great GP would have nothing to work on !!!!
Or maybe i'm being a fool , it wouldn't be the first time .:)

It’s almost impossible to have your cake and eat it with attacking fullbacks. Lamptey’s incredible going forward, but not as solid as Veltman defensively. Similar to Trent AA who creates bucketloads of goals, at the small price of being caught out positionally a couple of times per game.

4 officials say they didn't.

As for the likes of Shearer, who felt it was perfectly fair for Tarkowski to charge at Maupay and push him over, I couldn't give less of a toss.

Stat , i absolutely love that sentiment - we win as a team and we lose as a team . Having reread my post i can clearly see how it came over as me blaming one player for their goal , not my intention , just trying to rein in a bit of the euphoria as i personally don't think we can read too much into one performance . Similarly i think that some of the stick handed out to Mwepu in this thread was bit OTT . Just trying to balance things out in my own peculiar way !

Today has been a joyous day. Still buzzing from yesterday, ripped it out of my Leicester supporting work colleague and got a hefty payrise which I wasn't expecting at all. Best Monday ever.

1000% This. Plus it's against his mate Jug Ears's team so mate bias comes into play too.

Had a listen to the Leicester post match programme and their guy made a very good point as the show got under way. Fans, media, players have been asking for less interference from VAR.
For the penalty, the ref initially gave a corner, not a foul by Maupay. The assistant flagged for the handball and the ref concurred. VAR did not over rule the on pitch decision.
For disallowed goal 1, Barnes was in the Sanchez line of view and offside. The assistant flagged for it and the ref concurred. VAR did not over rule the on pitch decision.
For goal 2, Barnes was initially in the Sanchez view, then broke away, then lingered to wave his head at the ball as it went towards goal. The assistant considered that as interfering from an offside position. VAR did not over rule the on pitch decision.
There are many different view points circulating, but VAR is supposed to be lighter touch and that's what we got. Must admit it crossed my mind that the assistant may have taken some pleasure in flagging after the berating he took from Schmeichel over the penalty. However VAR quickly confirmed all the decisions.
As I have said many times to the point of tedium, I bloody love VAR and firmly believe it has worked in our favour over the years.

The decisions were the cricket equivalent of ‘umpires call’ I guess - even if incorrect (the pen probably shouldn’t have been given), not sufficiently ‘clear and obvious’ to overturn the onfield decisions (and the process for these was great - communication between ref and lino etc). The PL seems to have learned from the Euros in that far more is being ‘let go’ - and the game is much better for it. We all need to remember that though when the next key decision goes against us (like Maupay being pushed over at Burnley, which for me is closely comparable to our penalty)

Just wanted to share this because it is easily missed at full speed. This struck me at the time (mainly because Leicester aren't the first team to try to stop Sanchez from coming from the ball this season) and then Rodgers said that they specifically asked Barnes to mark him at corners. Watch what happens (apols for crappy screen grabs).

First disallowed goal, as the ball is struck, Barnes is clearly wrestling with Sanchez. The ball has just been kicked (you see it in flight), so no where near the ball. Just a two man wrestle. That's a foul on the keeper, even before the offside.

In the second disallowed goal, again you can see that Barnes is attempting to block Sanchez. It's less of a WWF this time, but clearly he blocks Sanchez way away from the ball - and Rodgers has now admitted that this was a planned move to stop Sanchez coming for the ball.

So both efforts should have been disallowed for a foul on the keeper, not for the offside (which he was by dint of standing next to Sanchez to fight with him as the corner is struck).

Refs need to watch for this because Sanchez is damn good at coming for the ball. As Rodgers said, he can cause danger with a quick, accurate throw. So more and more teams will be trying to get away with this.

The ‘interference’ with Sanchez was obvious from the replays, suspect the VAR ref took it into account as part of not overturning the offsides.
Sanchez did one quick throw in the first half out to the left that was fantastic - fast, long, curling and straight to Cucu I think.

This does seem to be a thing with Sanchez. He collects the ball so well in the air and has a huge throw, so opposition tactians are planning ways to nullify him. This wrestling way before the ball comes in is more American Football than Association. And then Rodgers had the frickin' cheek to complain when he got caught!

Plenty of quotes around yesterday and today from Rodgers confirming it absolutely was a planned thing……..glad the ref/lino didn’t miss it. Nobbish of him to complain about the offsides when he’s admitted the tactic

You’ve explained it so clearly.

Whilst that arrogant paragon of virtue Shearer just won’t open those slitty eyes or his mind.

Barnes was simply put there to impede Sanchez, he did and he 100% would’ve affected his judgement/vision to a certain extent. It doesn’t matter that the last incident was a well placed header. Unhindered without a midget there to put him off, Sanchez may’ve had slightly different positioning, he would certainly have just had one thing to concern himself with, saving the attempt.

Well played linesman, well played VAR and ref.

Leicester and Barnes - next time don’t be offside.
