so a quick sum up after 44 pages :- they were pacey - we were not , their plan worked - ours did not , they scored 2 goals - we did not , their subs looked match fit - ours did not
they move onward and upward - we move onward and downward ( only for now fingers crossed )
my personal highlight of the day was watching the tug of war between the stewards and their fans using a human as a rope ! i thought the stewards had lost only to see the pitch invader frog marched out of the stadium some 3 minutes later , i think that says it all

Felt like we threw the game away today due to the reluctance to sign any players to push the team on to a higher level. Everton bang average I’m surprised GP let Gross get ruined for so long without changing things. I sit front row NS to the right of the goal it was a painful watch being that close believe me.

Breakaways broke down just over the half way line with some pacy wingers/wing backs we could of made a real game of it. I heard rumours today of why we aren’t signing players not repeating it on here though.

Outclassed by a better team, simple as that.

They were so well organised, they let us have the ball and just had to wait for us to lose it. It's pointless reading too much into it, Benitez set them up perfectly to beat us at a canter, nothing anyone can do.

Pretty fair summary. I was worried about them before the game as they looked very dynamic in their first two games. They’re a really good team. The top four have bought aggressively so it’s a big jump but Europa should be well within their reach. They look very well balanced and, unsurprisingly, quick to break under Benitez. Loads of pace and loads of talent finally playing the way they should’ve been doing for a while.

At this rate Benitez could tiptoe across thel pool Mersey and be welcomed by both sets of fans as the creator of silverware. If he can keep this up Everton will be very interesting to watch.

He’ll be motivated by taking them into the new stadium but three years might become a very long time quickly.

They were better in every area of the pitch today. We were second best from start to finish. Taylor Richards looks a very useful addition to the first team squad looking forward to seeing more from him. Overall we deserved to lose but tomorrow's another day.

We had a poor game, but feel could have been salvageable if hadn't been for Veltman's completely unnecessary and amateur challenge on Coleman! I think most of us knew the game was done after the penalty went in. Was a strange game given recent form. Nobody really seemed up for it today not helped by playing players out of position!

Anyway, lets hope just a blip. Hopefully we can get Lamptey and other key injured players back in to the team ASAP (with a signing or 2 before the window SLAMS shut!) Clearly missing the pace and supply at the moment

Veltman is just back into the team so he’s rusty. I forgive him as he’s an absolute stalwart.

I think today was a combination of overwhelming us with pace but also tactically very astute by Benitez. He flooded the midfield and made Bissouma’s job very hard. He isolated our front 2 or 3. But we were getting a foothold again before the pen.

Not too worried. I think Everton have real threat this season. A well organised team full of some very good and quick players.we only got tactically outclassed a couple of times last season. This was another. You take it on the chin and move on.

Watching the goals back on Match of the Day, was struck just how poor the first goal was defensively. Dunk loose with possession, a huge gap between Gross Lallana and Webster to pick a pass for Gray to run on to, and then both Webster and Sanchez not at their best to avert the goal. Andone-level stupidity for the second goal. But everywhere around the team there were underperformers, Mac Allister particularly losing ball too cheaply too often. For me the only bright spot was Trossard but even he did one of his too often shanking a good goal scoring chance. Set up of the team was all wrong and at least Potter tried to rescue that at half time but Veltman made that work pointless and literally. We were as poor today as were good last week and while that’s obviously down to the calibre of the opponent, you fear it’s also our maddening inconsistency, Everton were decent but not stellar

On reflection our only real threat came from Trossard. He did try to make things happen. Other than that we were pretty clueless in the final third.

Agree. It seems that many here don't seem to understand that and have a scapegoating agenda. I thought he was one of our better players.

By playing players out of position . He is a good manager but has had an off day today . These things happen .

I am assuming that this is a touch of sarcasm.
Playing players out of position is the stupidest way to manage them.
Like me trying to play a left handed sax, I would be shit.
Players favour a position which brings out their strenghts and confidence, so why stuff them around.
I will never see this as progress and it makes the coach look cluless.

Their front 4 gave us problems all game , the 2 wide men were too quick for us , the lack of proper full backs was highlighted in today’s match , Dunk hardly won a challenge in the air against CL , plus his misplaced pass cost the first goal . I also thought they were quicker than us all over the pitch , and seemed to be first to most balls , I can’t remember a clear cut chance we created, but hopefully today’s performance was just a bad day at the office

Agree with all of that. They seemed to want it more than we did. They were pressing us like mad before we got into dangerous positions leaving us to lose the ball too easily and starve Maupay and later Welbeck of service. Benitez had them perfectly set up for us, and their mainly better players did the rest. They will beat better sides than us. No need to be too downcast. We played badly as all sides will and will play better as we know we can.

We had all this after we gifted them the win at their place last season, they were meant to be world beaters.......then they soon showed they were only bang average.

How many times did we make it to the half-way line, then turn, pass it across the defence and onto the opposite wing. And repeat. Probably even more when we were 0-2 down than earlier in the game. Great for possession stats, not so good for creating a threat. Obviously it is the only option sometimes, but it can't be the default.

I thought that was a habit we had got out of but it does seems to be the Brighton way. Backwards and sideways.

Everton were incredibly well organised and sat deep most of the game. Very difficult to break down.

There was no regular high press either. Potter could not use this as a trap to get space for our attackers.

The FSW got it totally spot on. You very rarely see Potter outthought, but Manuel-XXL served up a defensive master-class nullifying any threat whatsoever from us on the flanks whilst ensuring that DCL and Mad-Richy always posed a very serious danger that meant our back three was almost always pegged back so we could never get our traditional overload.

Most EPL managers aren’t the FSW though, he is exceptional. Hopefully, we’ll be back to playing well and creating lots of chances on our next fixture.

Very good analysis IMO. But we need to recognise that we are being schooled by the aforementioned XXXL and try and change things up. Not carry on doing what we are doing. Aside from the odd run by Biss (what an absolute player by the way) I didn't see much sign of that.

Still, yesterday at least confirmed that Richarlison has NO mates. Zero. I bet he sits on his own in the Everton canteen.
