Potter has had an absolute nightmare with that second half formation. This playing right footers at left back has got to stop and Webster showed at Burnley he should never play RB. A car crash at Burnley and a car crash today. We also look shocking with four at the back. They were carving through like a knife through butter. I have no idea why he didn’t just play veltman at RWB and get Wellbeck on and we would have had a chance imo.

Poor performance today.
We would lose to this lot even at our near best though.
They’re better than us.
That’s the premier league for you.
We move on.

First time at home in the prem I believe.

One of the most ridiculous posts since we've been in the Prem

Guess he must have forgotten that horrendous 2nd half of the season in 18/19 where I think we managed a total of 14 points in 19 games. Probably trauma from watching us lose 0-5 to Muff and 0-2 to Cardiff within 4 days.

Thank goodness that’s over! Really, really poor. Far too many experienced first teamers just didn’t turn up today.

Dunk, Gross, Lallana, Trossard, Maupay - not good at all.

At the game. Disappointing reality check for us I feel. We weren't at the pace of the game. Bissouma was excellent , Sanchez made a few good stops but distribution again suspect at times. Comfortably beaten by the better team.

Must comment on the very poor decision to play a terribly awkward and out of position Veltman at left wing back in the second half. Desperate for immediate first team player for that position.

Lightweight up front, didn't look like scoring today.

All in all, outplayed by a better side and it won't be the last time.

Onto the next game, hopefully with a striker and left back before the window closes, sorely lacking in those areas.

If that’s broadly our team and tactics against counter attacking teams this season, we’re going to get picked off with ease.

You could predict our next pass 90% of the time. Duffy to Dunk etc. The opposition did that too.

Would love to know how Rafa achieved the following:

An isolated Veltman receives the ball and is immediately surrounded by two or three opponents.
Ditto - Gross, Moder.

Other than marking Bissouma, it’s as if Rafa ceded CM, knowing we lack pace and creativity there, overloading our flanks.

The video blueprint for all our opponents now.

You said the same about Manchester City two weeks ago. Since then they've played two games with a 10-0 goal difference.

Luckily football is a bit more complex than "once you lose one game you lose all games".

So you are Potter.

Who do you have at left back?

Veltman is probably the best option with Burn & March injured. I suppose the fact we haven’t got Cucurella over the line is all Potter’s fault?

So we have no left footed defenders in the club who can step up?

Not even in the worst 20 performances in The Premier League.

Wasn't a terrible performance. Just one of those days, not entirely at the races and lost against the better team.

I think this was the worst performance from a Potter team. Moder & Groß given plenty of space on the flanks because Everton knew they’d not be an attacking threat. The FSW saw us coming and picked a side to absorb and hit us on the break.

If we’d had March & Lamptey (or Cucu & Livramento) we may have won that. Sadly, the FSW has laid out a blue print for Premier League sides so there’ll be dark days ahead unless we can get March & Lamptey back or in the profoundly unlikely event we actually sign some specialist wing-backs.

If it wasn’t before, hopefully this will make it blindingly obvious that we are shockingly light at full back to those who hold the purse strings.

Nothing really wrong with our performance today - they were just better than us in all departments. It happens in this league.

Agree with this. Everton are a better team. And I think we all knew this going in. We were just excited having six points on the board. But Watford and Burnley will be battling relegation this season. The fact we beat those - something we failed to do last year - is cause for some optimism. But I still think we're a long way from establishing ourselves as a top ten team.

Better players and a better manager beat little old Brighton. Shame we couldn't be bothered to play up. . . . Pretty spineless all round.

Not a bad start to the season though and good to have got a few results/points on the board.

What left footed players would you have picked?

It is if we’re still playing with makeshift wingbacks. Wouldn’t have worked with genuine pace there.

Luckily football is a bit more complex than "once you lose one game you lose all games".

We do have longstanding issues against compact counter attacking teams.

Disappointed. Except for the first maybe 15 minutes, we never looked like we were in the game. We couldn't find a way through Everton at all. Too slow passing around the back and not finding a way to move forward.

Still, six points from the first 3 games isn't bad. And at least we're not Arsenal.
