So what do you folks think about us playing 442, with Gross on the right, as we did in the first half at home to Newcastle last season?

Although we won this one, we didn't play as well as we have in most of our other games.

Agreed, we didn’t play well for 70 minutes.

Gross and Montoya on the right gives us so many headaches, I think we’ve lost quite a few PL matches this calendar year with that combination (but stand to be corrected) - next to no pace, vulnerable to the counter.

It's actually a genuine question. I thought it was a mistake when Hughton played Gross on the right, and we certainly preformed poorly until March came on, but Potter seems to think Gross can play on the right in a 442, so I guess he can.

The only game I've watched where we played a back four was at Villa when Duffy(he won't be played in a back 3) came on after 70'

No. I always see Montoya as a wing back.
That isn't how anyone else saw it.

Fair enough. I thought that half of football was just about the worst we played last season ad Groß looked utterly lost.....

Interesting to see how Potter will set up though if he has Connolly, Maupay, Gross and Trossard all fit and wants to start them all.

Edit.....and Mooy ! Big selection headache, but nice problem to have.

All three of your examples have got our line up totally wrong.
Pröpper wide right?
Gross wide left?
Mooy in the squad?

Gross started on the left yesterday and Propper on the right. And the third one was the Spurs game as I referenced that game as well. Just because a player attacks doesn't mean he isn't part of a 4. Burn was left back so it was 4 at the back in both games.

And in case your seat was facing the wrong way, here is a capture from just after kick off. Gross closing down the ball on the left wing and Propper on the right with Alzate in the middle. The swapped after 20 minutes or so but this was how we started the game so the line ups were correct.

Yes. It's all about opinions.
I've always seen Pröpper and Stephens as our two central midfielders.
Alzate yesterday seemed to me to be playing on the left.

I think that's how most of us felt.

Indeed, it seemed that way.

Well Connolly and Maupay up front, with Gross and Trossard on the wings (probably swapping during the game). Basically just like yesterday.

Edit.....and Mooy ! Big selection headache, but nice problem to have.
If they all started, and Mooy, then I guess Mooy would be central midfield.

They usually are, but Alzate has also moved in there. It was definitely a back 4 though. Previously we've had 3 central defenders, with 2 wing-backs, so a back 3/5. All of yesterday's defenders can go forward, but you wouldn't call that a back 2 or 3.

That is because after 20 minutes, Alzate did go to the left, Propper in the middle and Gross on the right. Not sure the formation is about opinions though. Just because you see a player in a role, doesn't mean that is his role in any given game.

FFS shut up. We are 10 games and putting in some excellent performances, even if we had lost today, we are far from being relegation material.
Ignore the Palace troll.

2-2 vs Everton deep into injury time and we have 5 players in their box. Good pic for anyone still thinking that CH should have been given another season perhaps.

Once again - you can't equate how Hughton set up the team to play last season with how he would have done it this season - anymore than you can equate it with how he had the team playing in the championship. Every season is different.

True - largely because Watford, Norwich and Southampton look so bad.

The reality is that any of the teams from 8th place down could end up in a relegation dogfight - lose 3-4 games on the trot and you find yourself slipping very quickly, confidence starts to go etc. - it happens all the time (it happened last season)
