Hardly heard the Coventry fans from the North. It was crap in noise in with us though.

I was two seats from the segregation and I could just about hear the North (where I usually sit). Coventry were much quieter than I expected. Think the second goal knocked it out of them. I didn't mind the Going Down chant - I would have been singing it in their position. I joined in their late solitary SISU out but I was pretty much on my own. I can get why we were quiet as these games are a hiding to nothing. How excited are we supposed to get beating a League 2 side?

I couldn't go today but it sounded ok on the radio overall! Not great, but not bad. Routine win v league two oppo never going to be too bouncing, just like when top 6 teams turn us over easily at their places. Its a shame English fans just can't be arsed in these kind of situations - why is that?? Not like it in other countries. Different fan culture, I guess. We react more to what's actually happening on the pitch?

Felt a lot of empathy for them before the game but after the you are going down chants I can give as much of a shit about them as I did chinney hill enforcing all seater stadiums on us

Between exiting the ground and my reaching the train queue I'd heard "Going down with the Baggies", "FA Cup winners: you'll never sing that" and a fair few variants on "Benders". I'll put the first two down as "banter" but once the gay bashing gets an airing I lose some respect. Probably just a handful of drunkards though. I reckon most people just enjoyed a glorious afternoon's entertainment in the sunshine.

Job done, ususal bitchin' in thread and stating we should have won 10 - 0.
Nothing changes, it was a bit short though.

Could anyone link me to the highlights, i can’t access the BBC ones as I’m abroad. Thanks in advance

Well, I would agree that Worthing is on the wrong side of the East/West border, and the over-concentration of retired Colonels there can make it feel like a very different place at times - but abroad?
Still, if the BBC agrees that it is a different world there, who am I to argue?

Had the same experience- got into conversation with a couple of them in the train queue and their venom against us was a bit shocking.
They were going on and on about us going down and then what made me laugh was one of them saying that why can't clubs like Brighton share some of their money more with lower league clubs. I tried to point out that we are not exactly Man City and everything is relative. I also pointed out that when Coventry were in the PL when we were on our knees where were the hand outs then? This didn't go down well - the response I got was "well we didn't have that much money". At that point I shrugged my shoulders and gave a wry smile.

I know minority groups should not represent a club's supporters but this has made me hope that they don't achieve promotion and disappear up theirs own bitter and twisted back passages.

Also saw a Coventry supporter's comment beneath The Guardian match report dismissing us as "corporate" and "plastic".

Erm...you do know your ground is named after a corporation too and has a casino in it, right? I also helped photograph a wedding at The Ricoh Arena which took place in the N-Power Suite.

Those that live in shit houses shouldn't throw stones.

There was nothing wrong with Krul's distribution, and nothing wrong with Maenpaa's either. The focus on distribution from goalkeepers is out of proportion with the importance of it.

You obviously dont agree with Guardiola view that attacks should start with keeper and refer back to the days of Jennings and before him Ditchburn to just give a long punt up field for the strikers to chase which usually results in defenders like Duffy winning the ball in the air.

Football 'supporters' are becoming mindlessly clichéd. Plastics because we have a fairly new stadium and treat visiting fans like human beings? Thankfully the majority aren't complete tw@ts but the vocal minority continue to embarrass-our tw@ts included.

Good distribution from a goalkeeper means we are more likely to keep the ball rather than hoof it upfield to make it less than a 50/50 ball for us.

Anyone can play a 15 yard pass to a centre back, Krul had no problem picking out our defenders. He's hardly a punt and hope merchant of the olden days, but a goalkeeper's main job is keeping the goal. He's very good at that, I really couldn't care less about whether he can kick or not.

Michel Kuipers is one of our finest goalkeepers of all time and he can't kick at all!

I would change that to shot stoppers and as regards Krul most of his passes are thrown It was Maeanpaa who was punting it upfield in a hit and hope manner.

Most of Kruls constructive balls are throws or as you point out long pointless punts. Incidentally any news on his injury or was it just concussion.

He's fine. He said on Saturday evening "Thanks for all the kind messages. Nothing serious - just a sore neck"

Krul looked fine on Saturday.

Maenpaa on the other hand was a disaster. He's waited ages for a game the poor bloke, and when his chance came he looked terrified.
