Could be an unpopular opinion but I think we need a captain.
If we, or especially he aren't having a good game Lewis goes into his shell. Always has.
Without Lallana & Veltman today on the pitch today there was no grownup leadership at all. & it's a pattern

Poor. Very poor. By all involved in that shitshow.

I think Villa have now officially taken the mantle of team I least like to play. They are consistently a team of bellends who cynically cheat their way through the game. I thought it was just a Dean Smith thing but they continued it under Gerrard and now with Emery too.

On the plus side I was impressed with Colwill bar the header.
I've detested Villa for 40+ years.

A team that plays like they did must surely be coached that way , it can`t just be that villa scum have accumulated all the cheats -divers-and dirty tards in the league -can it ? .

Brighton goalscorer Alexis Mac Allister to Sky Sports: "Disappointed. We're not happy with the result or the second half. We can play better. We made a few mistakes.

"Our idea is clear - we try to build up from the back. We have to take the responsibility."

On the move that led to their goal: "We spoke about that situation. We knew Martinez plays a triangle wth Mings. We spoke about being aggressive. We worked on it during the week. I was happy I could score.

"In the second half there was no game. They wasted time. The referee let them waste time. We didn't play as much as we wanted to. That's the way they want to play football."

On whether Solly March should have had a penalty: "We asked him and he said it was a penalty. I didn't realise on the pitch if it was or not. We'll watch it again and see if it was or wasn't."

On their form: "It's still a good record. Maybe we'd like to have won a few more games because we deserve it. But we're happy. This league is the hardest in the world. We'll keep working after the World Cup."

Being there, atmosphere was good first half hour or so. Died off as we continued to create nothing and villa disrupted the match. Can't blame the fans - it was turgid on the pitch. Would've died off anywhere
Fair enough, sounding quite on the box, just thought everyone seemed downbeat or hungover!

Hey ho, these things happen :/ it’s not the end of the world... after all, we don’t have a devine right to steamroller the opposition... they clearly had a nice little game plan, which made for a shitty, dull game with the margins running in their favour... as oft is our want against bloody Villa!

I rest assured Roberto has found out more about his squad today than he did on Wednesday, defeats like this are often more useful than those glorious victories... we still have a problem against teams who niggle and hack whilst our rhythm becomes laboured, stop, start and that fluidity we need evaporates... we must find a way to win ugly - when required, alas it was very similar under GP.

I know which type of team I’d sooner follow! Us obviously, as when it’s good it’s superb ... remember too, Villa have spent BIG and remain a long way behind us.

Finally, if anyone had told me we’d be where we are at the start of the World Cup - we’ll I’d have taken it and about 5 places below.

Onward.

Seagulls.

I actually totally agree. I would add Webster though - he and Lallana are our vocal on pitch leaders and were huge losses today.

Dunk is not a natural captain. Plus I think when they’re all fit, there’s a question as to whether he gets into our first team now anyway IMO.

Another unpopular opinion, I wonder if the club are looking at first team quality CB's? Webster's worried me this season with significant errors up field, usually covered by Dunk.

Veltman has to start every EPL (yes, I know he missed recent wins), but he gives security to the right sided CB. In the over confident first half, at times all of Dunk, Gross and March were up field by the dugouts in open play, WTF. Allowing a poor Digne and one other to exploit the space and pass to the dangerous Ings.

Disappointing result.

This is the Premier League though, and every now and then you come across teams who are absolutely up for the fixture on the day, and unfortunately for us, Villa were super fired up for it today. They got their lead and parked the bus with a 6 man defence.... Any team would struggle to break that down.

Our performance wasn't good, but it wasn't terrible... Losing Lallana changed the game early on, massive shame.

Still, this season is still going great. We can't win them all. We're still well on target to achieve our European ambitions.

You won’t be alone in that feeling - something is a little off with Dunky - maybe it’s the thought of not having another chance at the England squad combined with his age? He has been one of those players sadly overlooked in recent years.

Having said that, conceding penalties are an occupational hazard for defenders and especially for one Dunk’s size - statistically he is probably the most likely player on the team to get a wrong penalty decision against him - he is also one of the few players (ironically along with Burn and White) that I’d most want in front of me if I was playing in goal but without the careless errors!

Dunk himself says he isn’t a vocal leader, Lallana & Webster ‘run’ the dressing room, the fine system etc

Was quite impressed by Colwill, big lad with an old head on young shoulders, seemed to slot right into the side
My MOTM.

I'll excuse the missed the header, every Albion player is crap at tucking those away, even 30 year olds.

Giants Dunk and Webster trundle up for corners every season, you just know they won't score with a header.
