Holroyd bashing for no reason there. I'm not his biggest fan by a mile but he looked lively when he came on today and did alright. Should be no where near the 1st team though.

What about Batti?

Sounded like a good team performance, but highlighted the fact we are a little lightweight upfront, but as we all know Gus is addressing this

Poke 5 - Looked nervous and indecisive.

Calderon 6 - Fairly solid game considering he is still coming back from injury.

Elphick 5 - Made a few mistakes which would have been costly against better opposition.

Greer 7 - The calming influence we have been missing for some time at the back.

Painter 7 - Great second half, some really good runs past the winger.

Smith 7 - Didn't look out of place at all, which is impressive considering the lack of first team action he had last season. Would be happy for him to start at Swindon on this evidence.

Kishishev 7 - Combative but with a touch of class as well. Kept the ball moving and had a few hilarious rants at the linesman.

Navarro 6 - Decent game, sprayed some good passes around.

Sparrow 8 (MOM) - Had shots, played some good through balls, was generally everywhere. We have been crying out for a creative midfielder for years, lets hope Sparrow is our man.

Bennet 7 - Think the goalie cocked up for the goal. Some great tracking back, really runs himself into the ground. Should have scored again.

Barnes 5 - Looked isolated but didn't do a great job in any case. If we're going to do 1 up front, Barnes is better off coming off the bench.

SUBS

Walker - Don't remember him touching the ball!
Whing 6 - Still looks like he can do a job. Was nice to hear the cheers that greeted his every action. Hope he stays as backup.
Baz 6 - Two hilarious scissor-kick attempts. Possibly a little selfish but looks a tidy footballer.
Murray 6 - Missed a gilt-edged chance, really hope he doesn't make too much of a habit of this. Put a lot of pressure on their defenders.
Holroyd 4 - Needs one to go in off his arse.
Dicker 6 - Pretty tidy. Should shoot every so often.
Battipiedi 6 - Looked comfortable on the ball.

Didn't say he had a brilliant game but if any other player then Holroyd gave that performance it would be a 6 or 7. Can't believe i'm sticking up for Holroyd!

If Holroyd had one shot on goal during the game (despite getting nowhere near the target), then that is a 100% improvement on his last 5 games, so must be worthy of a 6 then!

Why on earth Gus plays him, I cannot fathom. He hasn't scored at any level for over a year!!! He has to be the WORST EVER forward that has played at this club (more than 5 games), certainly in my 30+ years of watching the Albion.

Dont be silly. Sparrow was great, Smith was very good. Smith had a couple of good attempts on target, hit the post, and some good dribbling and running. Encouraging for the upcoming season.

Poke - 6 - Had nothing to do all day, distribution good.

Calderon - 7 - His usual flair old self, gets forward very well to provide an extra option for Bennett, occasionally out of position but defence cover for him well.

Greer - 6 - Solid game, very aware of the players around him and always looks for the pass to open up play, good addition.

Elphick - 6 - Like Greer very solid and some great tackles to put the Aberdeen attack off.

Painter - 6 - Again very aware of the players around him and made some very good flicks and runs into space to create chances.

Bennett - 7 - Showed the pace he had last season, great awareness and although his crosses were occasionally a bit high a very good performance.

Kishishev - 8 - Class. Played very well in the middle slowing the Aberdeen moves down and even at an old age showed great skill and touch on the ball.

Sparrow - 8.5 - MOM - Again another class addition, always looked into the spaces for the pass and although sometimes his touch and pass was a bit off he played excellently and can see him following the footsteps of Crofts very very easily.

Navarro - 7 - Solid in the centre of the midfield, sat back and did what was needed from him, showing similar form from last season even slightly better.

Smith - 7 - Very impressed, very good passes in and around the wing and played the ball across well to gain the space, needs to work on his through balls but otherwise a very good performance.

Barnes - 6 - Looked good but didn't have much chance to create anything or have any chances on goal.

Subs

Walker - 6 - Again had nothing to do.

Whing - 6 - Fans reaction showed he is still liked around here and got into space well to create chances on the wing with Baz.

Battipiedi - 6 - Did not get the ball enough to make anything but linked up with Baz well and always looked like he wanted the ball.

Dicker - 6.5 - Showed great awareness and skill in the centre to get the ball up the field more often, needs solid performances to break into the team.

Holroyd - 6 - Looked lost occasionally but got into the box to cause some worry at times but apart from that did not produce much.

Baz - 7.5 - Great little spell from Baz. Always wanted to get in on the action and was always running around trying to create space and beat his man, and two stunning volley attempts too. FLAIR :clap2:

Murray - 6.5 - Got into the spaces well and had good chances to convert but was unfortunate not to hit the target.

Overall Team Performance - 9 - Probably the best performance i've seen from us in recent years, not a single player on the pitch that I would say played badly and the difference in class from last pre-season is abseloutely outstanding.

How could Poke look nervous and indecisive when he had nothing to do.Looked ok to me. Sparrow mom and Jamie Smith deserves to start against Swindon. The only player to look totally out of place was Holroyd. Barnes not strong enough to play lone striker.

You for real? He's only been here 5 minutes. Let's see how he does this season eh after bedding in with the squad.

Jesus Christ.

Poke 6 - Not one shot on target to save so can't judge...

Calderon 6 - Not as involved as usual but solid as ever
Elphick 6 - Solid but needs to stop rushing out and gving needless silly free kicks away.
Greer 6.5 - Quality passing but one mistake - sometimes better to clear your lines.
Painter 8 - Thought he was exceptionally solid and got forward well. Class act.

Smith 7 - Lively and looks a good squad player
Kishishev 6.5 - Great touch and reads the game well. Possibly a yard off the pace today
Navarro 7 - Improves every game - simple, simple, simple
Sparrow 9 - Quality - wins ane ball as well as spraying it around with ease.
Bennet 7 - Got in some excellent positions and another great goal. Poss not the best crosses today and under par finishing overall in a couple of good positions.

Barnes 5.5 - Didn't get much service today

Walker 6 - Didn't touch it?
Whing 6 - Nice to see him out there
Baz 7 - FLAIR
Murray 6 - Some nice touches as always - quite hungry
Holroyd 5.5 - Poor finish when well placed. Not up to it IMO but won't judge on 15 mins
Dicker 7 - Some of his turns are a thing of beauty - buys himself time on the ball
Battipedi 6 - Didn't do much but won the ball well

It's a tough job up front on your own for Barnes. Has to do a lot of running. Thought he played his part for the team very well rather than sparkling on an individual level. Kishishev was a class apart, ran the show and Sparrow was very good too.

Batti's left footed (thats his weak foot!) long pass down the flank was incredible.
