Out of interest, how big was the museum at the AMEX?
Pretty small but jam packed with stuff from memory of my one visit

It was the size you'd expect of a small-ish exhibition at a museum if that helps with context

The museum at the Amex was absolutely amazing. Imho it's a disgrace that it's not been open for years, and unless Brighton museum give us loads of space than this is really disappointing news, there's so much history to tell across all the different stadiums. Hopefully they do.
Not sure how they could give us less space as the existing museum in the Amex , whilst fascinating was cramped and tiny and inaccessible.
Is it really a "disgrace" for the club story to have a permanent space in Brighton museum in the heart of the city ?

I've always presumed this is why it's been inaccessible in recent times. See also: the downgrade of Dick's Bar and conversion to yet another corporate space.
RIP the Community Stadium 😔.
Will PB be that interested if museum doesnt produce an income
Is it not possible that decisions are made at the club sometimes that are designed to preserve the history and stories of the club and make it accessible to more fans (and newer fans - given the number of school / educational visits across a year). ?

I presume the museum will cover more than 1995 onwards?
Good point. My only view on the museum (other than it should be permanent and accessible) is that it shouldn't resemble one of those unbalanced fan-written Wikipedia entries (usually of lower or non-league clubs) where the first 100 years or so of a club's existence is summarised in a few paragraphs, and the majority of the article is spent giving an in-depth analysis of the most recent ten seasons or so.

It was only inaccessible because our club prioritised £ over keeping it open. Which i do think disgraceful. How many other clubs in this country don't have a museum in their stadium?

If the city centre museum is as big or bigger, great. But based on the European display I'm not holding my breath. Hopefully 124 years of history is deemed worth some extended space.

I still have probably the lowest wattage Albion memorabilia - a few Yes Yes balloons left over when I ran out of lampposts in Hove. Not sure they would be queueing round the corner to see them.

Museum in the city centre is fine with me. I want as many people to see it as possible

I agree. I also feel that it’s needs to be an attractive story for football fans in general, and randoms who have no interest in the club or football but happen to be in the museum looking at other stuff.

Maybe a consistent timeline from 1901 to now with temporary and changing exhibitions for different eras/events in our history?

That was along the lines I was thinking - but with the main bulk of the exhibits comprising an exhaustive future-proof online archive that would be fully accessible to the worldwide diaspora of Albion fans. Any physical exhibition could be, as you say, temporary and changing, possibly themed in the manner of the Europa League exhibition. Everybody wins!

It feels like our club has been taken over by some overseas conglomerate that wants to eradicate our past. I’m surprised by the club’s apparent apathy to our history, leaving it to third parties to maintain it or forget it. I find it all rather sad having lived through the troubles and more.😢

I think this new set up, in a proper museum in the centre of the city, has a lot of potential.

But will it be fulfilled?

Personally I think that visitors who don't live in the city, will be disappointed that the museum isn't at Amex and accessible as part of the stadium tour. You don't visit The Bernabeu or Old Trafford and then have to catch a train or bus back into the city to find the club museum.

But I suspect the club prefer the second tier to the club shop rather than the history of the club.

Yup, this. The naked commercial greed becomes ever more apparent. And it's not a good look

Shirley the ceiling will be higher if the museum is situated in the city - I would guess a great many people visit Brighton who might be interested in seeing the museum but are unwilling to make the trip out to Falmer to tour the stadium.

True. But I see it from a different angle. It will be in a lovely location, and I like the idea of random people stumbling across the new Albion museum and learning about our history….people who would not otherwise be interested. And folk who are really interested in the club and our history shouldn’t have an issue heading into town…..they can do the stadium tour and then head into Brighton, have a coffee in the Pavilion gardens, see the Pavillion itself and then see the museum. The more i think about this the more it makes sense.

The proof the pudding will be visitor numbers though. How popular is the current museum? What are the current visitor numbers?

Hi all,

The Fan Advisory Board have been working through the future of the Albion museum - how can we keep the phenomenal legacy of the club alive, educate new fans about the remarkable journey we have been on, pay homage to the absolute titans who stood against Archer and Bellotti - without whom, the Albion may not have been here at all.

Brighton Museum, based in the town centre (Pavillion Gardens) are exploring a permeant Albion exhibition, following the creation of the 'First Year in Europe' club collaboration.

Over to you - what is essential to be captured? How can we best creatively tell the club's story? Given the stadium's location, it's been important to us to work on how the club can be more openly represented in the city centre.

There is a short survey below for the Museum to capture feedback, which we'd be very grateful for contributions. Some further context as well.

Brighton Museum are rummaging through Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club’s kitbag of memories, stories and emotions and we need your help.

The last 30 years have been a rollercoaster of highs, lows and everything in between. Tell us in the following questions what you would like to see in an exhibition about the Albion, or stories or people you would like to find out more about.

Great post, thank you. I went to the first year exhibition and was rather underwhelmed to be honest. Given that most of the exhibits in the Brighton museum have nothing to do with Brighton, I would think there is huge potential to raise the 'Brightoness' by a much larger Albion area. I will give it some thought before completing the questionnaire but thank you to all concerned for taking this forward thus far

£9.50 standard adult entry fee at Brighton Museum. Would people have paid that to get in to the museum at the Amex? Will people want to pay that if it is relocated into the city and would they give STH‘a a discount?

This all feels a bit forced, and frankly a bit naff. Is there really any demand or need for a museum any more than there is a trophy cabinet? And I say this as an uber fan obviously.
