McGhee, was a top bloke, I met him on a number of occassions when eating in me restaurant on the beach. Always up for a chat...although that may have been due to the pints of whiskey he drunk!!!
Ignoring Poyet, you have to go back a long long way to find a better Brighton manager.
You could argue they achieved more in their careers but whilst at Brighton McGhee achieved more. He kept us in the Championship. You could argue Coppell was disadvantaged, but surely at most he would have achieved the same as McGhee?
I think you are putting too much kudos on staying up by the skin of our teeth. Coppell got a better team together, but was appointed too late, and was going will the following year before Tight sold him. Peter Taylor actually won the "third division (old money)" title.
