Just ‘donate’ them £50k on Paypal Tony.
Tony will buy a 'nice' car . . . Then sell it on ebay to the 'winning bidder'

The buyer may happen to be in the Basingstoke area and a supporter of the club, they don't 'need' a nice car as they already have a Skoda, or a maserati . . .

'THey' may choose to sell it, and invest the profit of this fortuitous trading in their local football club.

Presumably the point is that he is not contracted to Basingstoke so why should they be compensated? How would you determine who to pay if someone has no contract? Every club they have ever been coached by?
Yeah why not? I would fully support this idea. Do it on every transfer too. A % of the transfer fee to every club the player played for before the age of 18/19/20/21

Get some of the Premier League money trickling down the pyramid.

What about loans ? Darragh McAnthony the Peterborough owner says Peterborough should have got a cut of the Ben White transfer money for the game time they gave him

As far as I can tell, this is only a story because the Basingstoke manager is shouting his mouth off and because Henry Winter has bought into it and hyped it up a bit.

He's a 17 year old kid who's been signed on a YTS contract (in old money). Statistically speaking he's more likely to be back at Basingstoke in 3 years than playing 1st team professional football.

This isn't a new thing, the only difference is that 99.9% of the time youth football clubs are probably happy their player has been given a chance at a pro club rather than feeling hard done by and complaining about money.

There must be a complete minefield of legal reasons for why you can't introduce payment retrospectively for children's coaching. But yeah, apart from that let's have a crowdfunder and put a bit more pressure on the lad :lolol:

The arse end of Hangleton
That’s the whole point. It is the system that has caused him to not have a contract. A system that benefits very rich PL clubs. Not the Albion’s fault but money does need to be filtering down to grassroots level.
Surely it's the law that anyone under 18 isn't able to form a contract rather than the football system ?

Yeah why not.

Obviously Leeds would get the Lions share of any Ben White money because he was nothing without Bielsa.

It’s an interesting one and I see the merit in it for sure

May seem harsh on Basingstoke but would be worse if money changed hands for 17 year olds. A different level but I know 2 very good youngsters walked out of our Academy and signed for Chelsea.
Look at number of players released from Academy. We are giving them a chance but very few make the grade. Seems right to me that money should not change hands until they are on a professional contract. At Basingstoke level should think all players are part time and club cant stop any player having a trial with any league club. Indeed the player in question I understand had previous trials with Huddersfield and Norwich.

Well, that's one way to make sure they don't get burdened with another loanee from us again! Trot on Darragh.

We are splitting hairs over rules and regulations.

We signed him the day he came out of education specifically because that was when we could.

The club explored options to pay up because it's the right thing to do.

I've set up a go fund me. Maybe we get a few quid at least but we aren't Chelsea, City, etc. We are a community club ourselves and should remember where we came from.

Wouldn't this defeat the Bosman ruling. A player out of/has no contract and someone signing them has to pay previous clubs., I don't think that's going to happen.

If the lad gets transferred to Chelsea for 100M in a couple of years time, I'm sure he'll be able to make a substantial donation himself to his well-loved boyhood club, where many of his family are likely to still be involved.

Well, apart from the people who ‘can’t believe he was coached at 2 years old’ and who have misread a very important word in the article.

I think the bit we are struggling with is why it matters, and what difference it makes.

It doesn’t.

Of course it won't happen but it would be a good way to get some money down the pyramid.

Surely this is a better system than a club that has developed him for many many years at a young age getting sweet Fa for their troubles.

The amount of money sloshing about in football we have to consider ways to distribute it better. IMHO anyway.

They've just signed Zak Sturge on a season long loan as it happens. An example there perhaps for the Albion last year of CHELSEA GOT OUR BEST YOUNG PLAYER AND WE GOT NOTHING.
