They are embarresing themselves, not the club or the support as a whole. True, to a certain extent, but I don't think I was ever anything like as bad as this lot. I knew where the line was and I knew where you had to behave yourself.
At Pompey this year, there were a group of about 10 spotty teenagers walking to the ground singing "f*** off Pompey, Pompey f*** off" and other such abuse at various Pompey fans. They were very lucky boys, I think the only reason nobody actually steamed in to them was because they looked like such a bunch of geek morons and it wouldn't be fair. Had they done that after the game I think there may have been a very different outcome. If they continue like that, they will regret it at some point.

Ok, here's my take on this. You're always going to get a mixed bag of fans, both at home, and away - just as not every Millwall fan is a knuckle dragging homophobic retard, not every Brighton fan who goes to away games is fan is going to be a knowledgeable football fan who only signs songs supporting our team.
Notters point is a very good one - The London games do tend to bring out a younger crowd, some of whom do act like idiots, and for who a good slap will probably teach them a well earned lesson. I left right on full time, so didn't witness their behaviour in the cage, and it does sound rather cringeworthy. They should certainly respect, if not fear, opposition fans.
However, these youngsters are at least following the Club - 1,800 odd ain't bad at Millwall, (although I can't get my head round the fact that we take twice as many to Charlton?) and according to my Millwall supporting mate we made as much noise as West Ham did a couple of weeks ago.
Also, let's remember our youth - I remember signing songs from the North Stand when I was about 14 - "You're going home in a County Ambulance", " You're gonna get your f***ing heads kicked in" when the reality is I wanted nothing to do with any trouble, but as an easily led teenager, just joined in with the songs.

They tried it a handful of times and hardly anyone joined in. Yes the benefit and caravan songs are pathetic, but the way you're going on about it it was the whole crowd doing it for 90 minutes. I agree fully, I must say as the years have gone by my dislike for albion fans as a grouphave grown and grown.
I was thinking the same lastnight about the songs inside the stadium and outside, me and my 3 mates were some of the first out and were surrounded by Millwall whilst we could hear songs from 30 yards away taunting them and trying to wind them up, it really is embarrasing.
I put a thread on here a while ago saying how shi* our support is, especially at home, but to be honest, I dont have to like them and dont intend on inviting any of these people over on boxing day for some leftovers.
If someone winds me up inside the stadium like they did at Portman road, then I personally sound them out and shout back at them, one thing for sure is, Gary Dicker might not be the best and most gifted midfielder weve ever had but does he deserve some moron screaming at the top of his voice " Dicker your FACCCKING shit" I told him what for and I encourage anybody to do the same.
So from when we got on to the platform at South Bermondsey.
We found a spot to stand which just happened to be right near the slapper in the black. Her boyfriend seemed determined to prove his ownership of her and his heterosexuality, as they found it necesary to indulge in prolonged bouts of tonsil tennis interspersed with starting up homophobic chants. The kids were probably about 5 yards away from us quiet as you like. My friends and I were indulging in a bit of light hearted banter with a particularly neanderthal group of Millwall, these were the ones coming up with any chant that featured the words cock, arses etc, even ball bags at one point. Highlight of this section was a Millwall fan saying 'hold your arses' as they got on the train to which I replied 'that will only help us' and one of my friends saying 'I think he is coming on to you'.
Now it is worth mentioning that we had been mocking Millwall's favourite chant, the Miiiiiiiiiiiiiii one, by making a nasally, droney urrrrrrrgggghhhh sound at them, when they had been chanting homophobic shit at us. The group we were bantering with were taking it in relatively good humour and no trouble was on the horizon.
Once on the train there was still a bit of banter flying around but in the main we had got bored of it, and the Millwall boys seemed to have run out of combinations they could put the words cock, balls and arses in to. Then at some point someone started the 'uuurrrrrgggghhh' noise going again, some Millwall thought we were singing their version, so one end of the carriage started up with 'Miiiiiiiiii' whilst the Brighton kids at the other end started mocking the chant. One kid in particular was getting right in this guys face making a noise like a moped whilst doing the hand motions of revving up a motorbike. His mates were all joining in too, when this guy (he was about 35/40 dressed like an aging Casual) snapped, jumped up and tried to hit the kid. I think he caught him a glancing blow but it was hard to see with so many people on the train. Cue all the kids diving in on this guy, it was like twelve armed milling machine powered by a nine volt battery. Then the police charged through knocking innocent bystanders out the way and it was all over.
When we got to London Bridge the kid was hauled off the train first and made to go and stand in the corner like a naughty school boy. He appeared close to tears when I walked by him, the Millwall guy was pinned down by the police on the train. This was the last I saw of them until I got off the train at Brighton on the way back. The kid was moaning to his mates about how he was going to pay the fine that he had received (presumably some sort of on the spot fine) and said he was hoping that he would not get banned from football. I think and hope some lessons have been learnt from all this but I fear it may take a few more beatings before the lesson sinks in with this group.

This is one of the reason I have had my fill of watching Brighton away....
One thing you need to bare in mind is that they're just kids. So cut them a break, we were all kids once. Saying that I hate all those songs you mentioned and more.
There seems to be a certain fan that doesn't travel beyond milton keynes, saying that there were away regulars who were also acting like cocks last time we were at mk. Any way I'm with you on the middlesbro away sentiment. I'm really looking forward to brum away and on a personal level derby away.
I have to admit to have thought the same for awhile now - but I'm very aware that it is quite possibly just nostalgia. I just think back about 10 years ago when pre-match, every player would have their own song, and we'd pretty much sing our way through the whole squad before kick off with each player clapping the crowd during their song etc.
Songs such as whoever we're playing's a shit hole, I hate, its just rubbish, its not funny, everyone's singing it these days and its just cringeworthy. I also hate the stupid North Stand of the Albion nonsense. That said, people can sing what they want, who am I to say different. I tend to be sober and with family these days, perhaps I should have a few drinks and go with some mates and try to make a difference myself, just haven't been doing that for a few years now!

I genuinely apologise if my last comment caused offence, I have no personal problem with the Ultra's I honestly don't even know who they are, I sit in the east family stand with my daughter. I have based my opinions on the Ultra's, from other posts on this site. I am all for any Albion fan trying to get new songs going and will sing/chant along with the rest of the fans. I just thought that whoever it was "giving it Large" last night and going silent when they realised they amongst the Millwall fans was Hilarious. Apologies again for any offence to the Ultra's
no mate, i'm not for a second suggesting the whole crowd was singing these songs for 90 mins... in many ways that's my point. good away support, in my book anyway (and we used to do this) is loudly supporting the team to the absolute maximum for 90 mins, not moaning when somebody makes a mistake, encouraging, making a friggin racket that the players can hear throughout the game. creating a bond between players and fans.
so from that perspective, our away support is rubbish as numerous small groups of numpties decide to spend the evening singing drivel about the opposition, rather than BACKING the players.
that's my point. and that's why it bothers me. because we used to be great away from home, and now we're not.

There are so few original songs these days. That was one good thing about my early days supporting the Albion in the 60's from the North Stand. There was a lad called "Ginger" who used to rally up the support. Any new song from the charts was immediately reworded, as well as GOSBTS. Songs still had a go at the opposition but it seemed better humoured than some of the repetitive, ignorant, stuff we get today. The "Gary Hart" chant is about the only player song that really stuck - and now he's gone.
No problem. No offence taken, it is just we get a rather bad press on here generally and I felt it was necesary to point out that we had nothing to do with this incident.

I think it probably emerged from our days in League 2 where, relative to most, we traveled in significant numbers. Now, we are no bigger than a medium-sized fish splashing around the Championship pond. Many, many clubs in this division travel in bigger number, especially for non-local games. The fans of many of these clubs are also on a different level when it comes to any rough and tumble outside the ground. A number of Albion fans haven't realised this yet.
